Default Mass Air Flow Sensor

I was reading in a book on high performance for the LS1 and LS6 that cutting the screen out of the MAF Sensor will help the performance of the LS1 and LS6 but could cause poor idling and tipin stumble what ever that is. Anyone cut screen out ? Is it worth it or stock better ?

Although you MAY get a very small increase in air flow with it removed, the decrease in drivability will more than offset it. The screens specific job is to straightening the air and "direct" it smoothly over the sensor. If you remove it, there is a lot more turbulence present, causing a slightly less accurate reading. This can be addressed slightly by having someone "re-tune" your MAF to compensate for the change in airflow, but supposedly the reading is still not as accurate. Some after market CAI systems need a screened MAF to prevent codes. My 04 Z06 with a Vararam had a screened MAF in when i got it,so it was changed as the 04 Z came factory with no screen.Best maybe to leave the screen in and use MAF cleaner.

Thanks, I believe I'll leave it in.
