In 1997 the corvette made leap forward in technology and performance. Thorough the years of the C5's growth, it came into it's own around 2001, when even more improvement were made. Every year model has it's own set of quirks and some are not so model specific. IMHO the 2001-04 are more reliable cars... for one they probably by and large will have less miles and certainly have less time for mother nature to take her course with degradation of connections, seals, wear and tear. There are some VERY nice older models that have been babied and cared for meticulously, and I would say depending on the skill level of your electrical, and mechanical prowess it might be a great choice. If you want less maintenance and somewhat more reliability, I would stick with the 01 to 04
