I have a 2003 C5 Z06. I would like to transport it using a company with a closed carrier. Has anyone have personal experience with this situation. I called and got a quote from Reliable Carriers, the one you see on TV on the Velocity station, their price was very outrageous, along with the fact that they would pick the car up at their leisure, then unload it in Ohio at a secure warehouse, and at their leisure, load it and deliver it, maybe 4-6 weeks--OUTRAGEOUS!! Some other carriers quoted me better prices, but I do not want to trust my baby with some small time outfit unless I have a great recommendation.... Thank you in advance!! Robert
Many companies are merely brokers that contract with independent carriers. I used a broker highly recommended on this site and was happy with the broker. The carrier on the other hand was not so good. I paid an extra $100 to have my car picked up during "auction week" and promised a pick up day and time as well as a delivery date. Be aware that these dates and times will be flexible due to unforeseen circumstances such as break downs, weather etc. having said that I got a call around noon on pick up day saying driver would be there at 4:00 pm. At 5:00 I called the dispatcher and was told he would check with the driver. At 5:30 got a call from the driver saying he was in traffic and would be there by six. Fast forward to 8:30 and he called to say he was I town but didn't know where I lived. Seriously? I went to get him and finally got my car loaded at 9:30. I left for the destination planning to arrive a day before the truck. Had it all coordinated and gave them a extra 2 days before I flew home. When delivery day arrived the dispatcher called to say the truck had been in an accident 30 minutes after it left my house. He said an Audi R8 received a dented fender but the other cars, mine included were OK. BTW my 01, 17,000 mile coupe was by far the least valuable on the truck. My car did arrive unscathed but my stress level did not. Also be aware they will not unload your car until you pay in full. If it is damaged you must file a claim. This way you can't refuse to pay if there is damage. Another piece of advice is to request a copy of their contract to review before you decide to use them. Not all carriers are the same. I chose enclosed over open because I thought they would be better as well as protect the car. Not always true. Anyway do your home work and get some referrals first. Good luck.
I used Intercity last spring for my Corvette transfer and had a very good experience. Their initial estimate for pickup was about 2 weeks I believe, but it actually did not take that long. There were stops for pick-ups and drop-offs of other cars along the way, but I was kept informed via phone calls. Car was transported in enclosed carrier and covered. Very pleased with Intercity.
At that time, there was a Corvette Forum discount, I assume that still applies.

Reason: add info
Another pleased InterCity customer here. Two years ago had my FRC picked up in California and delivered to Illinois. Timeframe was around 2 weeks from start to finish, with no issues whatsoever.

My first and only experience was this past month. Won an auction on ebay and had a bmw shipped from Georgia to Texas. Used Jay's Auto Transport. $450 for a 700 mile haul in an enclosed trailer.
Its been a few years since I did this. But I had a great experience with an open trailer transport I'll share. I contacted a Detroit dealership and asked about their transport routes. They had a truck route down through the midwest corridor that eventually made it's way to Phoenix Arizona and then to my town - Tucson. I asked if they ever had empty space on their trucks that a private party could take advantage of. I expected a no answer. But I got a yes. And after some negotiation I got a commitment from them to pick up a car I wanted that was only 10 miles from Detroit and was on their path south. And get this ... it only cost me $350. I had to wait 2 weeks for them to pick it up. But it got here exactly when they said it would. And it was delivered directly to my driveway. The car was a little dirty when it arrived. But only a very little bit. It was being transported on the top row of the trailer - highly recommended. But it wasn't a collector car. I wouldn't have risked this if it had been. It was completely unmolested otherwise when it arrived though. And I was very happy with the outcome. Depending on where you want to ship yours to, you might want to check out whether you could do something similar ... but maybe plan on paying a bit more with an outfit that does some amount of business using enclosed trailers.
I used Angels for covered transport from boston to denver, they were the most affordable and most importantly delivered my car in the same shape it left boston in.

I am going to investigate Intercity. I placed my info on a website and got about 10 responses. Cost from PA to CO ranged from $760 to $1,600. I may consider flying out and making the 2,000 mile trip myself, but it would just work out better if it was transported, I will update on which avenue I take....

From: Gurnee IL. so close to Wisc. I can smell it when they cut the cheese
Romisz, I'm shocked no one has offered to drive it out to you. The timing of you post is perfect as my wife and I are looking to relocate and the info supplied by everyone is great. Good luck on your move.
