I've tried searching the threads, and see Z06's between 2:00 and 2:04 lap times at Buttonwillow. I have no idea if they're stock or not? I am wondering if anyone knows what a reasonably stock one would run (I know tires play a large role) and a base C5?
I'm going to buy one in the next couple months and plan to use it for HPDE events. I came from a Pontiac G8 with Brembos and coilovers and was running 2:11.0, and my dad bought a bone stock C5 with the magnetic shocks, never went to the track before and ran a 2:14. I have to assume there is 7-10 seconds left in that car? I guess I'm trying to decide whether or not to throw down the extra $ for the Z06 or to buy a coupe and worry about suspension at a later date? Thanks guys.

You can pick up the coupe for less money, just don't get the F45 or F55 suspension... it will make it much simpler to upgrade to a C6 Z06 suspension. Then hit the track!
depends on your goals. the z06 is a great balanced car stock and needs very little to run consistent lap times.
personally i would absolutely buy the z06. suspension is already great for street tires. you have a better powerband, better gearing and less weight all for a couple grand more than a coupe
gives you a platform to run laps and see if you can nail 3 laps within half a second of each other
