Continuing my search for a C5..
I had my hopes on a low mileage yellow convertible with chrome wheels that fell through this afternoon, but as the bug seems to have bitten, I am off on a new search! Found a grey targa with alloys which is boring in comparison (sorry to anyone who likes black, triple black, grey etc..), but it only has 29000 kms and guaranteed for a year. Price is high, but OK. Here is a pic from the dealer's ad.
Talking of their ad - they state the engine is 'atmospherique' - which is the French for carburettor - this is a mistake, yes?
Reading through the help guide above this time, one thing that grabs me is 'weatherstripping' - are there water leak issues with a targa top and/or windows?
My only other gripe is lack of a fitted satnav, but following an intro from Jack, have had a brief exchange with DoubleD who appears to be able to cover this quite nicely.
I have one more question. Brakes. Is the stopping power on a C5 good? I imagine it has to be but ask because on Mercedes V8 cars I am used to six pot calipers. I agree that much about 6 pot jobs is purely image, but surprised that Chevrolet use single pot calipers on such a car (although I see the trend on many new large cars now eg Jaguar)

I'm very biased, but Spiral Gray is a great color. One thing to keep in mind, the women really like it. Spiral Gray was not my first choice. But when I drove up the first time I saw my car, I thought if this dealer agrees to the deal he proposed over the phone and if this car checks out, this is the one. Over time, I've gone from sort of liking the car to, most recently passing on an excellent deal on a Cyber Gray C6, to keep my old pal. This is the kind of color that you go from being OK with, to wondering why it wasn't number one when you first started your search. They only made Spiral Gray for 2 years and there is no other C5 color even close to it. So for those who like it, the color is in demand.
EDIT: BTW, mine has no leaks.
Here's mine:

Spiral Gray is an awesome color. Had one in my sights got the loan and the dealer sold it out from underneath me. Bought a black one. Throw a few extras on it like the wide fenders and wheels and they keep getting sweeter and sweeter. As far as brakes you can upgrade to the C6Z06 calipers and rotors depending on the wheels you choose or the C6 Z51 brakes and rotors. So many upgrades available to make the car suitable to your needs. Here is mine after a few upgrades.

If it is a stock C5, then yes, it is a mistake in the ad - the C5 does not have a carb.

Some cars do have problems with water coming in from around the weatherstripping or windows. Sometimes just putting a good dressing (like dielectric grease) on the weatherstripping will soften it up and help it seal better. You can also adjust the fit of the targa top and the tip in of the windows to make them snug up against the weatherstripping better. If you do end up getting the car, or just want to read up on C5 water leaks, PM me your e-mail address and I can send you all the Word files I have on that subject.

While the C5 brakes could be better, I haven't had any problems with the performance of mine. They have stopped my car well in all situations so far. But as mentioned, there are a lot of upgrade options out there if you want even better stopping power.

Do not touch a used C5 from any dealer…...
Hell no…..
~ Repeat hell no……
Get one from an original owner…...
That's the one you want and there are a lot of those available if you take your time and look around in different states…..
An original owner will have maintenance records and and give you the history that you hardly ever get from a dealer. Plus you won't have to pay as much…..
Look around, take your time, get the nicest one you can find and then make a deal…..
Good luck….

Good advice in a lot of cases, but in his situation, I believe he is in France so his options may be less than we have here.
