Default 2004 Z06 shocks

Where is the best place to get some factory 04 shocks? Looking to replace the originals on my 2001. Thanks!

amazon has the best shipped price around averaging 400-450 a set

they cross under the ac delco part numbers of 540 137 and 540 146

type those two numbers into amazon and you will get a better price than any of the vendors can offer by a mile

don't worry too much about that. most back orders are filled in 14-30 days-ish. order now and when it shows it shows.

rock auto also has these shocks but with shipping you will pay a tad more

or if you need them soon that could be the way to go

search for the 5% off coupon code if you go rock auto

How do you know those are 04 shocks? Gm had a different part number for them and I thought they were made by sachs

I seen then on line can't remember were but a few weeks back back F-$175.00ea. R-$135.00ea.. The 04 Z0-6 shocks are not like any other year Z0-6 the Sup. was tuned for the shocks..

part numbers can change over the years. what you do is look up 2004 z06 shocks in a gm parts catalog online or at the dealer, take the numbers and you can cross to ac delco. the actual boxes have both numbers on them. the gm and delco

all the newer units are made at some plant in mexico. i'm not sure if sachs owns it or if they are just built to the sachs design/valving

the delco numbers i posted above are the cross to the current 04z shocks sold at the dealer. if for example you walked in and spent 200 a shock at the dealer, those delco numbers will be on the label somewhere

You can still buy shocks with these parts # for the 04 Z0-6 .they may be NOS but the same Z0-6 number .The only shock for the Z0-6 has to have this number or not 04 Z0-6 shocks . Look it up.. I have..

Just a heads up on this. I tried ordering all the shocks amazon had last year. They had 4 of either the front or rear and 2 of the other.

One was an 04 production, which i don't want to put a 10 year old shock in my car.
2 leaked, and they said at that point all they could do is refund my money.
I was really bumbed so i honestly haven't done anything. If you find a place that has good(not leaking) new production 04z shocks(which is 2011 i think?) please let us know.

The normal forum vendors couldn't get the front or rear last year? They had a name for it? I was sort of under the impression they may all be gone?

Ahh i found it, "DESCRIPTION: 2004 Z06 Front and Rear Shock Kit.
The front shock absorber has been put on restriction by GM we are unable to obtain the front shocks at this time." It didn't say that when i ordered them around this time last year but still says it now. So possibly all fronts are gone?

any place, they all pull from the same inventory

some oil seepage is normal at first, typically goes away within the first 5 miles as the seals seat. some shocks may be 2004 vintage and possibly dry rotted. your dealer, amazon, whoever, they all get the same shocks the most recent of which were made in mexico

amazon and rock auto have the best return policies and would be my choice for just this reason

very good chance that when this last run is gone no more will be available. GM likes to discontinue 10 years after the last model which would mean 2014 was the end of the line. we may get lucky since this is drivetrain but i wouldn't bet on it

I'm just gonna order the joc shocks. They are supposed to be a lot better than the 04 shocks anyways.

no such thing as "better"

you have a lot of guys who think aftermarket=better on here

the 04 shocks are very good if you want to be fast on the street, excellent compliance and motion control

most aftermarket shocks seek to go stiffer which often slows you down on the street but can be quicker on smooth tracks if they are done right.

it's more like which is more important to you

How are you decoding the numbers on the shocks to find production year. I replaced my 04 z06 with new 04 z06 shocks 2 weeks ago. I'm wanting to know the production year of what took off my 04. I got 2 rears from amazon and fronts from smc auto parts spent $400 total.
