The "tubes" you are referring to are your coolant (radiator) hoses. How do the hoses feel? Are they soft and compliant or stiff? Do they show any signs of cracking? Any bulges where they shouldn't bulge? How old are they?
If you're not sure how to evaluate them, it is time to take the car to a trusted mechanic. If you blow a coolant hose, you will likely get stranded. If you blow a coolant hose and don't catch it in time, you'll be buying a new engine. If you decide to replace the hoses, then also have the coolant flushed.
If everything checks out, put some Aerospace 303 protectant or Armor All on them and they won't look so "weird".

the car is a 2003, i didnt touch the hoses, but looking at how pretty cheap it is to replace all of them i might just do that. is this something that is pretty simple to do or should i jus take it to a mechanic?
I hate to say it this way... but it's the old "if you have to ask" reply. Honestly though; replacing hoses is about as easy as it gets.
my concern is not acually swapping the hose, but acually reaching it. i have pretty huge hands and i didnt get a close look at where all the hoses connects. looking at the pic it seem i must into the engine.
