Default Quiet tires

I have a set of Goodyear F1 GS D3's seven years old on my 01 vert. They seem to have gotten very noisy over time and as we are taking a three week road trip from Long Island to the western National parks in June it is time for a tire change. I was on a site that tested various tires in the real world and found that at 60 mph they all ran about 72 DB. Using the DB app on my iphone I am reading 85/90 DB but don't know if this is accurate. All I know is that the noise level is intolerable on a road trip with the top up. Has anyone used the iphone to check tire noise. I am leaning towards a set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
P.S. we were looking at a new convertible but the trunk is half the size of my C5 so maybe after the vacation trip.

The Michelin PS2 tires are very good, but also consider the Hankook Ventus EVOs. I have them on mine and they are very quiet and offer a very good ride.

I put on Hankooks Evo's for the very same reason. They are quieter, even my wife says so... And they seem to be wearing well, as well as good performance - at least for my needs.

PS. And BTW, the price comparison/difference was substantial over the other contenders.

I used the noise app on my droid and it was 82db in my 01 hatchback with 18k miles on original GY tires. I'm ready for a quieter...more comfortable ride too

When I put the hankook v12's on mine I couldn't believe the difference in the noise.
And I feel the same way about the trunk in the C7. Believe it or not, that is what is keeping me from buying one.

Don't know if you've tracked this thread, but it may do MORE good than tires... some GREAT ideas... simple, inexpensive, and easy DIY. Just getting stuff together and a little time.

Putting on my second set of Hankooks tomorrow. They are a great tire, and I got 40k miles out of mine.

I removed the original Goodyears and put on Hankooks Evos with an alignment. Quiet and like a new vehicle again.

Turn the radio up. Sorry, just can't help myself. Most people that complain about tire noise say non run flats are the way to go. Hope you find a solution to your problem.

I agree with you whole heartedly. I can't understand this whole discussion when it come to noise from a corvette. I put an exhaust on the car because it was to quiet. Not to many of the early corvettes were quiet.

Hankook Ventus V12s have a solid reputation, as I'm sure you've noticed

If you are going to do Michelins, the Pilot Super Sport is the best street tire you can buy AND they cost significantly less than the PS2

I don't have much experience with different tires but I replaced the my Toyo's with Michelins Pilot Super Sport and absolutely love them. Awesome grip straight line and corning, great ride and very quite. Though you they will cost you a bunch.

Default Pilot Super Sports

Last week put on Pilot Super Sports all four corners and got the alignment two days ago. Cost me $1150 all in. Feels like a new car.

If you want quiet, be sure to get a tire that has treads that vary in size as the tire rotates. Meaning, tread is wider here, move a tread, now it's narrower, move another, narrower, and so on about 6 times, then progressively larger again, and back. That way there is no resonant frequency at which the treads hit the road and the tires make way less noise. If the treads are the same size all the way around, the tires will be noisy as all sin.
