Hi Guys,
Just stopped in from the C4 froum to rattle a few cages. I just returned from a Corvette body shop that is doing some painting for me and I saw him doing the finishing touches on a convertible Z06. He used all OEM parts and his work is, as always. flawless.
I was just wondering how this sets with other Z06 owners. Is it blasphmey or something everyone would want? What persentage of Z06's would be convertibles if the General sold them as an option?
I like the open air feeling but would probably want to keep the structural integrity of the rollbar. I would opt for the targa top of the coupe using its hardware. I have only seen one vendor offer this option. Not cheap.:smash:
I don't know of many body shops that are qualified to take on either project.
Did I not read some where that the C5 was developed as a Vert from the onset? So if you chopped the top at least the handling should not be affected, or not? I have a '91 Vert and the cowl shake is quite pronounced. And this is with a large X-frame under the car. So I'm still wondering why the General does not offer a high peformance Vert?
C44EVER
there are quite a few Z06's out there that have modded their vettes to be a vert-a dozen or so last I heard, have seen a few at the NCM events. I know the kit is about $6500.
I've never seen it done for less than 12K. The good ones use all factory GM parts, so it can be quite expensive. Not to mention the cost of a good paint job.

I spoke with an owner of a Z06 vert at the NCM and he said he did it at $6500
corvette shop in tampa, may have been my old car. the only painting required is the waterfall, the roof is fiberglass and unbolts if you take the trunk and decklid off. when i wrecked my car the owner of the joint told me the whole process, said its really easy and on an unwrecked car would be under 7k, mine would be about 2500 out of my poket that insurance wouldnt cover (i had barb wire holes in my roof so it would have needed replacement)i think his web site is http://www.corvetteshop.com
Just wanted to say that I cut the roof on my Z06 , I made it into a targa , all parts are stock and the car is just as stiff as it was before . It was done at Caravaggio Corvettes up in Canada . I get a lot of looks and if I had to do it again I would .
