I'd originally thought I'd go to an X pipe to get rid of the jingle like so many here do, but I'd also read that I'd lose some of that throatiness, rumble, and crackling/popping that I've grown to like...so my question is, has anyone modified their H pipe to get rid of the jingle? By cutting it open and taking out the baffles/discs/washers/whatever-they-are and bringing the crossover to the full 2.5" diameter, and what would that sound like? Videos or audio clips appreciated
I don't think there is any baffles in there, just an half inch hole and some tube welded to each side. My father just out headers and x pipe on his, and it gurgles and pops just like always, maybe even more than before

I have thought about the same thing. I've gotten fond of the "motor boating" gurgle and pop sounds on deceleration and would not want to lose that by installing a new X-pipe. Some say you still get it but I have not rode in one personally to know. There is nothing in the factory H-pipe...just a 1/2" hole on each main pipe that goes into the crossover section. IF I knew how to weld and had the tools I would have already done what you're thinking and tried it.
Yeah from what I've read the crossover is actually mostly a reinforcement nothing to actually balance the exhaust pressure. Guess they thought they would punch a small hole to do a little something. Corsa used to have a display with an H cut down the middle to show this and to show how much better their X pipe was.
So upon further inspection of images of our "H pipes" cut in half, I was wrong and there is nothing inside the crossover...but that still leaves me wondering how the car would sound if those holes were widened to the full 2.5" diameter
From what I have read and researched the X Pipe will give a higher pitched exhaust note, the H Pipe gives a deeper note, and apparently when you open the hole diameter larger it would deepen that more but would still would not flow as well as an X Pipe. There are videos on Youtube that give you somewhat of an idea of exhaust note.
I'm guessing no one has any sound clips of of what the widened holes would sound like, and I might be better off going with an X anyway. The X would probably drone a lot less than the widened H if I end up getting some B&B Bullets to replace my stock TI's. I'm in CA so for now I'm stuck with stock manifolds.
I seem to recall that the last edition of the Pontiac GTO they got rid of the H pipe to give the exhaust note a bit more "attitude". All the H pipe is there for is pressure balancing, hence the small hole.

True, the '04-'06 GTO had true duals that ran through a single resonator. I know the holes are for equalization but I was just wondering if widening these holes would eliminator jingle, and sound good.

That thing does sound like a tractor! I was not happy with the h-pipe jingle and motorboat gurgle. Love the sound now with TSP LT's, Magnaflow x-pipe & cats and factory Ti's.
