Default Hash marks?

To each their own, but I've never been a fan of the stripes on corvette fenders, I understand it's part of racing history but wasn't they only used in a couple of races? I think they may have came on a C5R and maybe another one at some point.. But I just think they look out of place.. Am I the only one?

Number ten of the Corvette Ten Commandments: "Each and every Corvette is an individual work of art. Judge not, lest you be judged".

Who cares what others do to their cars??

Don't like it, don't do it. Pretty simple...

No! They started with two identical C4s racing at LeMans. GM added the hash marks to one of them in order to tell them apart.

I saw those front fenders stripes on a Mustang. I wonder if he knew the story behind them

Pretty sure they originated in the early 60's on 3 grand sports racing the same race, not saying it hasn't happened since but originally long before C4's.. I think they made a few late model C4's with the stripes for the public and again on C5R's

I happen to like them myself. They came standard on the 1996 Grand Sport and the Ron Fellows C6 Z06, but they originally were on a couple of Corvette race cars back in 1963. Here are some documents that give a bit of history to the hash marks.

It all depends on how the owner pulls them off.

Ive seen a few nicely modded vettes with them and they looked great , then ive seen them on some not so nicely modded cars and they looked like cheap vinyl stickers.

They are only as good as the car they are going on

I also remember they were first used on the '63 race cars to identify the different cars on a team.

I am one who does not like them, but everybody needs to make their car the way they want it.

Back in 1963, the Mecom racing team fielded 3 of the 5 original Grand Sports at Nassau - all of which sported the same livery. So, in order to tell them apart as they approached coming down pit lane, color coded hash marks (black, white and red) were placed on the front of the carr (not the fenders). This particular race was the only time the hash marks were ever used on the original Grand Sports, but their iconic status was forever sealed into Corvette history.

The first time they appeared on a production Corvette was the 1996 Grand Sport, with twin red hash marks on the left fender. All 1000 Z16 optioned cars had these hash marks.

The next time they appeared on a production Corvette was on the 2010 Grand Sport, but this time they were part of the optional Z15 Grand Sport Heritage Package. On Z15 cars, the hash marks then appeared on both fenders and were available in four different colors (silver, white, red and medium gray I believe). These Grand Sports continued to be offered through the end of C6 production (2013).

A lot of debate on whether or not there will be a C7 GS - I hope they do build one.

There was never a C5 GS from the factory, so I built my own...

I have the fender hash marks on my C5z, kinda curious how it would look with a proper grand sport stripe on the nose though? Who wants to be the guinea pig? Time to change it up too many dodge chargers, infiniti g37's, and mustangs rolling around my area with fender stripes. I don't think they have a damn clue where the stripes came from or what they mean.

Got em as well. Flat white on the Torch red looks really good up close.

I put them on my car so if for some reason the other 314 white 2000 FRC's parked next to me I could find my car......

I've got them on both my black 99 coupe and 01 SWZ. Makes the cars stand out just a little more than the rest

Not my taste either, but then I also don't like red, or chrome, or... to each their own. It'd suck if we all drove the same cars, even IF they were all the best finish; black.

The dodge people call them war stripes on the Challengers. Don't like them much either, looks unfinished.

Mine are on the left fender only. Breaks up the monotony of all white.
