Got to wonder what kind of condition it is in also both mechanically and cosmetically. Just because it runs and drives doesn't mean it has no problems that have to be addressed. For that price, I would have to say it needs lots of work or has many, many miles on it.

probably a salvage title and who knows what else would need to be fixed to get it in good shape... I'd rather spend more and get a better platform to start with personally, it will save a lot of headaches

Buying a Vette, there are a ton of questions that have to be asked.
The codes, tires, leaks, brakes, wheel bearings, title and many other systems. Caveat emptor.

I looked for about 6 months before I bought my car and every other one I looked at the owner described as "perfect" or "absolutely nothing wrong with it" which turned out to be quite the opposite... I came to find out that many corvette owners just have a lot of pride about the car regardless of it's condition
OK, beat me upon the head with a rubber mallet, but would a car at this price be worth buying in order to part out (unless you got lucky and it wasn't in too bad shape)? Would you make your money back and then some? Could you cull those "rare" C5 parts?
I would bet it's got over 200k and there a dozen or more check engine codes lit up. Picking a C5 up with 100k on it is one thing, you get over 200k+ and your in for a lot of time and $$$ to fix things.
