Default First "sleepover"

Had to drop off my 2000 yesterday to get new tires and an alignment. First time she's been away overnight other than winter storage in 5 years. Found it more difficult to leave her than leaving my daughter for a sleep over! I had no idea that I'd react that way.

All sorts of nervous questions - tire weight stickers, not clamp on ones? Can you bring it inside for the night?

Too funny. Anyone else go through this?

FWIW ended up buying the Hankook V's for her in stock sizes, and boy do the rear tires look huge laying down!

I'm w/you with worry leaving " loved one" over night. Question, did u leave the TPM sensors in? I'm running run flats now but am on the fence about going w/non-run flats in the future...

Funny you should mention it, I'm having some work done on my baby next week, and have the same anxieties!
I have had other vehicles that I was paticular about, but nothing like this!

I always ask (more like tell) them to keep inside when leaving overnight. They fully understand-whomever I have taken it to. Yet at some point before or after its outside at the mercy of whoever happens to be in the parking lot. One time I was at the local Chevy dealer standing right next to my car and some bafoon in a great big jacked up pickup truck just had to roll his front tire to within inches of my fender. Why, why, why? An agonizing moment.

No reason not to leave the sensors in the wheels - they will give you warning that non-run flats are losing air also. I run them in my non-run flats.

And to the OP - yes, I get nervous when I have to leave any of my cars at a repair facility, whether it is overnight or while I wait. Never know what could happen in an instant.

Yes, keeping sensors in tires, even with non run flats. The PO replaced tires with non runflats, and I've had the sensors the whole time. I can't see why removing them is a good idea, nice to know when tires are getting low.

Having the car at the mechanic overnight doesn't really cause me anxiety, it's just a hassle: it's my only car.
(And I'm not sure why tires and alignment would require an overnighter, but there ya go.)

Only logistical reasons.

Am I missing something here?
Why would you have to leave your car overnight? It's a couple hours max to replace tires and get it aligned. Why couldn't you either wait for it, or drop off in the morning and pick it up at lunch?

That is the main reason that issues that I can't fix don't get fixed. Seems that every time I take my car to my mechanic, it comes back a little worse for wear and tear.

Logistics - garage is 10 miles from my house, and 20 miles from work, have a 6 y/o who has to get on a bus in the morning, wife works in diff direction, etc. Just worked out easier for me to drop it off. I did not want to take a day off work to do it either.

I trust the guy/shop it is at been going to him for 10+ years. Last time I used one of the big places nearer to me, I had my F250 in there to remove a screw from a tire, they told me 60 mins, I left and came back 60 mins later, my truck was on a lift, with the hood open. Next day my CEL came on. Perhaps a co-incidence, but WTH was there ANY need to go under the hood to remove a screw from a tire?

Gotcha! Having a mechanic who you can trust is worth his weight in gold, and worth the occasional minor inconvenience. I hope he did good by you.

LOL and I guess the one with a logo is only $49.99!

All is well. My garage smells like fresh rubber.

Conclusion -

Holy cow, car drives and feels so much better with the new tires and alignment. I've taken a few drives with it, including highway and back roads.

Hard to describe other than much smoother, refined, yet neutral. Much less tiring feeling. There is a transition point on my way to work where some new pavement ends, and the next part is older pavement which has ruts in the lane where wheels travel. The car used to lurch significantly when I crossed this, now it barely does. Feels much more like my truck does over this point, which is a good thing.

Quite happy with the Hankook tires.

Couple weeks ago our '02 did an overnite at the window tint shop.

Last Friday (it's Tuesday am) it went to the dealer for an "all fluids" exchange - and it's still there waiting for the correct seals from GM. Could/should be back today. C'mon Fed Ex.

Separation anxiety? Llisten to this: Years ago I dropped off a '93 (new at the time) coupe for some carpet adjustment. When I picked it up there was a Subway sandwich wrapper stuck between the seat and console. When I took it to the Svc. Mgr. he said they always take cars for a test drive.

We then had a meaningful conversation.

Oh yeah, I've got separation anxiety.
