My wife has a 99 convertible and the key fob battery went. I replaced it and now the car will beep once randomly. It sounds like the door locks also. The key fob is in the off position and is hanging on a key holder in another room.

Do you have the slider switch on the fob in the on position? The '99 (which I had one and had a similar problem with) has been known to randomly lock/unlock the doors of the fob is within a certain distance from the car. If the switch is on, try sliding the switch to the off position and see if it continues to lock/unlock the doors.
