Hey guys is there a sticky somewhere ?
with the key out my wheel will free spin with the tires... no locking..
just wondering the tell tale signs if it has been fixed?
I have read many topics on how to fix it but don't know how to tell if it has been fixed

You can call GM (dealership) with your VIN and see if any of the recalls have been done...they are NOT fixes....
If you do not have the key in the ignition and it doesn't lock then something has been done... either the CLB or the LMC5.
The LMC5 is easy to see when you remove the foot well cover to the BCM... there you can visually check for the LMC5 module...
I'm not familiar with where or what the CLB installs or what it looks like...

THX!!!
Just pulled the cover and see no LMC5, Called the dealer and they say the recall has been done..
Sorry for the hijack ...wondering if I should get the LMC5... guess I better hit the google to see if it stacks with the factory recall or what not

Well, the good news is that the lmc5 got in before my trip. The bad news is that I now have the pull key wait message on every start up. Never twice in a row, but if it sits for 10 minutes. Wheel does not lock anymore though, which is good.
No info on the poster that you responded to's car. If it is an automatic 2001 or later he doesn't need anything. If it is an automatic 1997 through 2000 he also may need nothing...........
99 auto.. had the factory recall... getting it as insurance??
Won't hurt on the pre-2001 A4's but unlikely that it is necessary. If you didn't install it the only way you could get stranded is if the GM Tech that did the Recall service mistakenly reprogrammed the PCM to set the 2mph fuel shut off. That was ONLY supposed to be done on manual trans C5's. If the 2mph fuel shutoff is NOT programmed and the Column Lock symptoms struck (usually because the car battery goes low) the worst you would have is a message displayed in the DIC. Car would still be driveable and column CANNOT lock. Automatics subject to the recall service had the full size lock ring replaced by a small diameter lock ring that the lock pin cannot intercept hence column is incapable of locking.....
Good info thx for your time man!!!!!
much appreciated
I assume if the battery was fully charged after said 2mph issue it would resolve?
Do you have any evidence to back up the statement about the LMC5 NOT being the ultimate fix... Number of failures, proof of LMC5 failing etc? So far I have never heard of or seen on the forum where the LMC5 has failed...
Did you have an LMC5 installed correctly when yours locked?
There are thousands of C5 owners putting their confidence in the LMC5 module to keep the column lock issue from ever happening to them...not just because of the inconvenience, but to possibly save lives! And now your saying it's NOT fool proof... that's a pretty huge statement. I'm not saying your RIGHT or your WRONG I'm just saying that what you are suggesting is a MOUTH full....
This is ONE of many times I would LOVE to see what 8vette7, dadaroo, and Bill Curlee has to say about your claim. That the LMC5 is NOT the ultimate fix for column lock...
Apparently you missed the point, I'm stating that I wouldn't put 'ALL' my trust on a electronic part for my safety. When my incident took place there was no LMC5 available !! It seems like you want to purposely try to stir things up Mr.73corvette and drag other people into debate about how one perceives there own safety. Grow up !!
