I will be attempting to replace the ignition switch (complete assembly) in my 2001 C5 vert. I've searched the forum for the change out procedure from start to finish, but without success. Can some one point me in the right direction? I kinda need the basic tutorial including pictures and hints as to what to be concerned about. I think I might have to start by removing the water fall and moving forward to the dash to begin to get to the ignition switch. Would really appreciate any help you could provide.. This forum and it's members has been a terrific source of information and assistance to me on several issues in the past. Thanks in advance for your help!!
Your guess to start with the waterfall and work your way forward is correct. Doing so will allow you pull the center console toward you easily. Pull off the arm rest , disconnect the lighter, center console, and panel below the steering column and you are there
This will get you 95% there. All that is left is to pull off the black key surround, and remove the knee bolster (2 torx screw). Also, bookmark Toque's page, it is very helpful.

More than 2 screws to remove the Knee Bolster. Here is a good write up I recommend people review.
OP, if you are replacing the entire assembly are you rekeying the cylinder to use your existing key? If not you must make sure the new key has the correct resistance pellet in it.
PS: If you have a manual shift car you do not need to remove the shift ****. You can release the shift boot from the console and it will rotate and the console can be removed leaving the boot and shifter in place.
Thanks a lot! The attached write up is exactly what I was looking for. Step by step procedure with photos to remove the dash and gain access to the ignition/starter switch. I plan to re-key the assembly with my existing key. I'll need to obtain the procedure for re-keying the cylinder. But one thing at a time. Really appreciate your response. Greatly appreciated!!
