Don't know about bugs and tar, but a big nemesis in the Pacific NW is tree sap. It can eat into the paint if left on too long.
A body shop owner uses rubbing alcohol on tree sap. Soak a rag with it and cover the blob of sap for a minute or two. It breaks down the gooey sap and wipes right off.
