Now you maybe seeing what I'm seeing. I haven't seen any other that high and when I registered with GM, the rep stated he didn't show any other recs of another one close. Therefore, the reason why the new engine/supercharger didn't happen. As for the Forum, haven't seen any one really close to the mileage. I have checked other Forums, which most of them tag my post as highest.
The one annoying thing I can point to is, the steering position sensor comes and goes. For some reason it hasn't created any issues like some others have reported. My steering gets really stiff and feels like the power steering is gone. For me, it only may last for about 5-10 minutes even thou it will still show current in codes/history. Drives normal and steering goes back to no resistance.
Don't know what the thinking was on this with GM, they only used it for about 2-3yrs. Last checked, no one was making it or attempting to. People were trying to sell at inflated prices. Since it didn't cause any issues with mines, forgot about it.
Since the highest I have seen before is under 300K, you must understand why I was skeptical. 500K for any car is truly amazing. My seat foam is shot after 65K. You must be sitting on the springs.

I can some what understand the details, but for someone that hasn't really had any problems? That wouldn't work and for someone who was extreme as I was, the normal wouldn't apply. But with that said, normal would be multiplied for what I have to do as normal maintenance if I didn't use quality things and didn't waste time when things didn't work as demanded to switch.
People of the Forum would have to ask what questions needed, since what I do as normal is somewhat extreme. Nice to know the older I have gotten, the extreme is becoming less. I appreciate those who look at the car mileage, but I would love to calculate the mileage I've done body wise. I'm sure my body is in its 90s now. If anything has gone wrong, it's pretty much in a post.

The way it was sold to me by the dealer, I would be the original owner and never titled. For whatever reason it was, I some how ended up looking at some title info years later. Not mistaken, the paper work noted me as 2nd titled. Back in '99, they let me drive the car home for 3-4dys before I decided to buy. I was hooked since I was moving from a C4 to C5. Ride was night and day.
I don't remember if the dealer showed or gave me a CarFax, I guess I could look at the original paper work since I put it in the glove from day one I didn't read should have read. I do remember doing a CarFax check with the vin provided on the paperwork when I test drove for a few days. I do remember not showing any other owner other than it showing when the dealer got it from another. I want to say it was some DMV(Division of Motor Vehicle) title work showing titled to me and the bank at around 10,000 and change when looking at the records.
I know, stupid for not doing all the paper trail. At the time of the purchase I don't think it really mattered. I just knew it was a super deal and I was tired of finding flooded and wrecked SL's which was what I was looking for. My intent was to purchase one that day and just happen to pass the C5 in the showroom when decided to refuel and grab something to eat.
In short, by the time I found out with the miles I had. I didn't really have too much say. If would have been a lemon, now I would have been all over the place. I never looked at the odometer until months after purchase. I was just keeping track of what I needed with trip A and B.

It would be safe to say it was less than 10,000 prior to the dealer given it to me for 3-4dys to drive before signing. From the dealer to my home at the time was about 150 miles one way and plus with me going to Va the next day of about 200 miles one way not including any miles running around doing what I needed there.

Leftover demonstrator maybe? A 3-4 day 600+ mile test drive on a new Corvette is pretty much the definition of "not gonna happen".
(Probably not happening on a used Corvette either at any dealer I've ever been at...you must be really tight with the dealer/salesman.)

Like I stated before, really didn't think about value at the time. I never thought about how many miles I was doing with all the running around. If it would have been a lemon or problem car, yeah, it would have hurt. I never buy a car looking at maybe I'm going to sell it later down the road. My intent was not to drive it so much. One day I came home and saw it sitting in the yard thinking to myself, "I'm treating the car better than I treat myself.". I had only finance for 3yrs and my payments didn't start until at Jan-Feb 2000. Which wasn't a bad payment given no trade, just cash down. So with that said, the fun began(miles came along).
I can't say for the Vettes '05 and up, but was one of the most backyard friendly cars to work on. No special tools needed in most cases. I do remember some tool needed to take off a spindle. I think it was a rear axle(s) replacement. Hadn't gone bad, just the boots had gone and found the axle(s) really cheap. So while we were there, just went ahead did both w/in one day.
I know not now it wouldn't happen, but that was my first time going to that dealer. My chances were good due to the fact I left my car, deposit, and credit rating at that time that was shy of 800. Didn't get my 1st credit card until I was about 26(only had 1). I have to omit, I don't see I never got burnt on some the stupid stuff I did on reaction.

My plans were somewhat the same, I figured on the Polo Green C5 release in 2000. Mind you, I was almost at the end of Nov '99. Safe to assume, I was assuming a lot of things.

Heh. Sounds like he might have gotten an even longer test drive than you did.
Just to be clear, I'm assuming you got a good deal at purchase time, and you've certainly gotten your money's worth since then.
Decades ago, it used to be common out here for dealers of expensive cars (as I recall, BMW and Mercedes were the worst offenders) to basically lease cars from themselves, drive around on dealer plates all year without titling them, and then sell them as "new" when the new models came out. Needless to say, the people who subsequently bought those cars were not amused. California eventually changed the rules to prevent this, but I would not be surprised if something similar still occurs in other states.
That is awesome! I can't imagine driving as many miles per year as you do. I have only heard of long haul truckers doing it. I'm amazed to say the least.
After reading this thread, I started thinking, in 50 yr of driving I don't think I have driven much more than that total. And that was spread out over about 20 cars !!!
I was a district sales rep in the early 80s and put 40 to 50 thousand miles a year on my company car. We would trade in the cars when they hit 60K and I was definitely ready for a new car.. Seems like I was on the road all the time. I can not imagine putting that many miles on the same car over that length of time.
to answer the question about what would I recommend when it comes to maintaining or taken care of a C5. 1) Separate your transmission from the radiator. The built-in cooler is what did in or created issues with my last transmission. Radiator was leaking antifreeze into my trans. 2) Separate your oil to external cooler. I thinking if I would have done that sooner, a lot of things would have been totally different.
As my misfire and the cause noted in the service invoice, I do believe having the oil/pcv catch can done earlier in time may have prevent that issue or prolong it. Also, I do believe the slug build up would be far less than what it is. I did clean the throttle body area on a regular routine where the pcv came into the throttle.
