Default functional diffuser project

over the weekend I worked on a diffuser for my frc. I managed to snag a stock diffuser from a lotus exige, widen it about 2 ft and add some elements to it. it is sagging on the edges because of lack of support yet. but thats my next goal for the week. it does close off the whole rear section all the way to the sway bar.

Way to big to be functional? way too big to look good? way too big compared to what you can add as front aero?

way too big what, and why? At least complete your sentence.

seansz28, it looks similar to something that I was thinking about. I'm interested in your progress.

I think it looks great. I prefer if it sat under the vehicle rather than stick out tho.

Sub'd.

A friend of mine makes race diffusers for lotus's comparing his to c5r diffusers they need to stick out this far to smooth out the air. I wanted it to be as functional as possible from the side view it doesn't stick out very far

Actually I am, 2 degrees in Engineering-THANKS!

If you want to get TECHNICAL, READ THIS to start.

Bet that thing would last about 10 seconds in a wind tunnel, looks like about 1/2 the Honda's I see with this glued on stuff. I'm sure that piece was tested extensively on the car IT WAS MADE FOR. The rear of the C5 is HUGE already, then you add this cling on, looks like 10lbs of doodie in a 5lb bag. Functional, i don't think so.

This is what that's SUPPOSED TO look like (actually doesn't even look all that great on the car it was made for either)

why do you think it wouldn't last 10 seconds in a wind tunnel? what would its size have to do with that? and neither of those articles say anything against what i have on it. its not glued on, it's bolted with adjustable rods to set the height and attack angle. if you just don't like how my car looks. i'm sorry to hear that. its a good thing its my car.

also that's a stock lotus diffuser. race diffusers are usually way bigger. all these race teams must not employ any engineers with two degrees.

I'm curious. What is your personal experience with racecars or aerodynamics? What makes you an expert?

Without testing in a wind tunnel it's pretty much impossible to say if it would improve the aerodynamics or make it worse. That was made for a Lotus including its design characteristics.
As for aesthetics I don't know why this poor tandt guy is getting a new one ripped just for stating his opinion on a public forum. I happen to agree with him, I think it looks way off. Sorry...

Stealth02 is bringing one contoured to the car to market in August.

He says molds are being made right now...

A slight improvement over the attempt above. I don't think it will do any diffusing though.

Oh you don't have any experience? Yeah thought so. The name of the thread is "Functional" rear diffuser... Not Good looking diffuser.
