racebum; Thanks for catching my 'typo' on DOT brake fluid (was in a hurry typing)!! Soooooo many choices and combinations for anyone to decide on when it comes to brakes and what 'is best', I found my happy medium by trial and error over time, and being around guys that play serious with their cars at different tracks and events. And you hit it on the head in regards to membership mindset, anyway, hope the OP finds his best set-up !!

ps dot 5 is a big no no in abs systems, a good dot 4 like motul600 is a great choice

also track events require yet another compound vs a hot street compound since you're operating 500-1400deg not 0-800deg like a hot street pad. track pads are noisy as hell on the street and really don't come on until you put some heat in them

i have favs in all 3 really

old man pads = stoptech street performance. clean pads that work
hot street pads = hawk hp+ or ferodo ds2500 if you want a really civil hot pad
track pads = hawk ht10 or if you have a REALLY powerful car the DTC70, be warned, either of these pads can disintegrate the rubber booties on your calipers

hawk has a chart here showing friction mu & temp of their various pads. an EXTREMELY useful tech tool carbotech still can not produce for their pads i might add

http://www.ecstuning.com/ES517893/?g...66gaAqt88P8HAQ

you may notice the hp+ needs to be at 100deg to have that .50 friction mu. this is one of the reasons you really don't want to go much more aggressive on the street. when cold that pad can have less bite than the OE z06 pads which were something like a .42mu?
Thanks, only reason I was thinking ceramic is the last ones I tried were semi metallic and they were smoking and faded within 10 minutes! I've tried hawk hp before and they weren't great, may try the HP+

If you want a performance pad take a look at the Carbotech AX6.

The AX6™ is specifically engineered for Autocross applications. A high torque brake compound delivering reliable and consistent performance over a very wide operating temperature range of 50°F to 1000°F + (10°C to 537°C+). The advanced compound matrix provides an excellent initial bite, high coefficient of friction at lower temperatures along with very progressive brake modulation and release characteristics. Many drivers use the AX6™ for street driving as well, even though Carbotech™ doesn't recommend street driving with AX6™ due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise. AX6™ is NOT recommended as a race compound in most applications.

hp+ is a solid step up. the older hps was a decent street pad but was actually pretty easy to fade and didn't have a very high friction mu. if you look at the chart the new hps 5.0 is greatly improved over the hps and you can tell it's still a ways behind the hp+

the only street ceramic that's aggressive that i have ran into are the old axxis ultimates when they were made by PBR. those things would eat rotors and grab. it was almost like ceramic wink wink. most street ceramics have a very low friction output

i'd try the hp+ and see what you think. if those don't work the next step up would be something like the black compound. problem with it is you need a couple hundred degrees before they start working well. the new DTC15 also looks really promising on the friction/heat chart for a potential street/crazy driver pad

Been using brake motive pads/rotors for the past 8 months. Occasional spirited driving on street. Still look new, mainly because they are nickel plated.

I've had the Brakemotive rotors and pads on the 98 for about 2 yrs now. Still look brand new (zinc coated). Excellent price, excellent product. Mine was about $180 shipped for all.

After doing some more research I don't think brakemotive, though a good price, will suit my needs.. Think I'm gonna need something more "race like"

I've had the brakemotive setup on my car for several years now. Personally it amazes me how well they have held up. No rust, still look nice and shiny, no warpage at all. I just think I might want to go with a slightly more agressive pad. I don't think they are as good as when they were new, but when I do an oil change soon, I'm going to check the pads for glazing and maybe sand them down a little. Otherwise I highly recommend them. I beat the hell out of them, performance driving, they've been on the track and push them on the back roads where I live. Hilly and twisty back roads in a rural area. Surprisingly good quality rotors, especially for the price.

Are warped rotors something of a problem for the C5, C6, C7 generations? I thought we just needed to us a better pad like the HP+ and we were set? I want to put some slotted rotors on just for the extra ventilation and looks. It's the HP+ pads that I want on for the performance. Is this an inaccurate perspective to have?

Don't recall anyone complaining about warped rotors nor have I ever experienced them. I'm sure it could have happened but it seems the brake designs on the C5 and newer is very good.
