Default Traction control problem

I just totaled by 2008 C6 and the insurance company didn't give enough money to replace so I bought a 2004 C5. The only problem is that the traction control system goes off for no reason when I am driving. When this happens I feel a tug on the wheel and the Traction control light goes off as if I had spun out even though I didn't. This seems dangerous and I would like to get fixed. For now, I drive with the Traction control off so that this doesn't happen. Does anyone know what needs to be replaced to fix this issue?

Sounds the SWPS going out. Bet you get the C1287 and/or C1288 codes when you pull them. It may take a while for them to show up though. Same thing happened to my '04 and the SWPS was the culprit. Not to bad to replace. Costs about $65 for the sensor and take about 2.5 to 3 hours to replace.

SWPS - steering wheel position sensor.

This is about a 2hr DIY job to replace the sensor. The sreering column needs to come out to replace it.

OP, if you are in So Call PM me to for help in verifying and replacing the sensor.

Another vote for a bad SWPS. Mine was doing the same thing. Before that it would just disengage the cruise control for no reason. It never did throw a code.
