Ok since my last post about everything that I have found wrong with my car I have found some more. Recently the speakers in the doors started sounding like crap so I decided to remove the door panels and take a look. I discovered the bottom portion of the door panel on both sides were already loose. I discovered half of the female end of the retainers were missing. Someone has had the car apart before. Once I had the door panel removed I discovered that the rubber shield inside of the door was pretty much destroyed... then I realized that the speaker had a hole in it. Not to mention the door panel has a Bose emblem on the speaker mesh. Well they are not Bose so I'm thinking the door panel has been replaced. I ordered a new set of Pioneer 6 1/2" speakers for both sides. I have yet to remove the passenger door panel. We'll see what I find next... since I'm on the topic of car audio will a double din unit fit? I'm hearing yes and no...
Someone has sure been in there before you ....... good thing is that you can put some good quality speakers and sound system.
No The C5 has a DIN and a half size.
Would reccommend you contact Dennis at DD Mods one of the best vendors for audio on the forum. He will help you sort out your system to your budget. He also can provide modified bezels to suit the double DIN audio systems.
Good luck with your project
Lots of great articles in the forum
Ok thank you so much... glad to finally have some clarification on the head unit. Other than that looks like it will be a good repair on the doors. I ordered new door panel fasteners so things should go smoothly. Maybe I should look into some sound deadening while I'm in there...

If you modify the radio bezel, then yes, you can install a double din system. As recommended above, give Dennis at Double D Mods a call and discuss what your needs are and he'll set you up.
The head-unit in the C5 is a Delco CD player with changer control. It has large buttons and plain styling. The Bose Speaker System here is very odd, as there is a proprietary connection from the head-unit to each speaker. At each speaker there is a small amplifier. This makes upgrades of the rest of the system almost impossible without replacing the head-unit.
The head-unit supports CD, CD-R, and has changer control for the factory changer. Note that the changer doesn't fully support CD-R. One feature that is nice is the SCV (Speed Compensated Volume). SCV raises the volume as you drive faster, so that the music appears to have a constant level. Very handy for convertibles.
Amplifiers:
Due to the proprietary connection, there is really no way to bench test the small Bose amps. There is a single amp in each door powering the 8" mid-bass. The 3" driver is powered from the deck.
Speakers:
Each door houses an 8" mid-bass and 3" full range (!) driver. The 8" driver uses an inverted magnet structure to reduce depth. The lack of a tweeter is very apparent in the system, as the 5 kHz range is very undefined. The 8" driver goes into heavy distortion on any signal lower than 40 Hz at any meaningful volume. Overall, the system severely lacks punch. With no tweeter, and running at 15-18 watts per channel, the sound isn't crisp, and it lacks detail. The mid-bass is muddy, and vocals are harsh.
... Once I had the door panel removed I discovered that the rubber shield inside of the door was pretty much destroyed...
I wouldn't sweat the destroyed rubber seal in the door - when I pulled the door panel on my very low mile '99 to replace the w.indow motor assy, mine crumbled as well. Age and heat does this, not abuse. I replaced mine with heavy plastic sheeting and window caulk.
