I will never own many vehicles because they are autos or dct etc....yes they are faster, better in traffic etc, but give me a clutch and stick, or give me death!
I wanted auto but couldn't find the right package, fyi i believe the first 3-4 yrs corvette's came in automatic only. I think it wasn't until 1957 that they offered a stick. Could b off on yrs.
It is all just personal preference, but it sounds like you want an M6, so if that is what you REALLY want, you should search a bit more, save a bit more and then get the M6. You just don't want to regret your decision in the end. Maybe test drive a A4 C5 and see how you like it? My Vette is an A4 with 3.15 gears. I am completely happy with it , it is my DD so I def wanted a A4. For just a weekend toy, a M6 would work out just fine. In the future I will be adding a stall converter and maybe gears to increase performance a bit.
If you like shifting then you won't be happy with an auto.

I love shifting through the gears and listening to the exhaust burble.
According the to Corvette Black Book they produced more A4 cars than M6 cars during the C5 production run. Based on that, finding a M6 would be harder but I don't think it should affect the price that much. Good luck on your search.
My 2000 A4 is a toy that gets driven in traffic so I am very happy with it. After a cam and higher stall converter, I'm all smiles! The car is fast as heck and sounds incredible going through the gears.
I wish mine was an M6. I drive in traffic all the time but would still rather a 6 speed. I drive my auto through all the gears as if it were a manual. In DFW automatics sell faster and actually go for more money (that's what Corvette World told me when I was looking) specifically because of the traffic, the auto's are in more demand. Maybe you need to look in a large city?
I drive a stick in traffic , and it is a fish out of water. Probably my area, but everyone is in a hurry, waiting to jab the pedal as soon as the light changes, if they are in between phone moments. I wait with the clutch out , so I can either go into performance mode and hurry my actions to keep up with traffic , or leave a few car lengths space ahed of me, with everyone else on the road foaming at the mouth to ride the bumper of the car ahead, as though it would improve their phone reception.
A stick is a fish out of water in my local traffic. That's why I avoid traffic as much as possible.
I just got a 1999 m6 and without a doubt say that if you get the auto, you'll always have that bug in your ear telling you how much fun the 6 speed could have been.

From reading here, drag racers favor the auto .
I don't get why people think it's that hard to drive in traffic. You can put these Cars in 3rd gear and let the clutch out and it will go, unless you have a big cam. The clutch is almost as light as my fiancé's corolla clutch, and the trans shifts smoothly.
