Default Upgrade shocks

i purchased a set of Z06 replacement shocks from Cultrag performance for my 2000 C5. I'm installing them today however, I noticed the top of the new shock has a slight angle where as the old one was flat. I contacted Cultrag performance for assistance however they weren't able to tell me the direction or the purpose of the white Dot. There is a painted white dot on the top plate and I was wondering if anyone else has installed these shocks and does the white Dot face toward me or towards the car. Any assistance would be appreciated since the seller of the product could not assist me. I'm sure the dot is relevant since there's an angle on the top plate.

Thanks in advance

Not sure about shocks in particular but I know that in other industries they usually mark cylindrical shaped objects in a spot on one end for labeling or marking consistency. That could be the reason for this with these shocks. Pretty sure mine also have a small dot/slash on top of the shock body. I can't recall for sure but I didn't use it as a "this side out" or "this side in" identification indicator. As long as they are symmetrical all the way around it should not matter.

The top of the shock is mounted in a rubber bushing.. It may not line up PERFECTLY with where it needs to point to at the bottom.

Its in a RUBBER BUSHING. Mount the top flange and PUSH the shock to where it needs to go.

Its not going to OR SHOULD NOT damage the shock. I've installed several C6 Shocks as replacements on several different cars. The white dots don't mean anything as far as I know. Never had any issues. Its 100% bolt in like a C5 part.

I have 600 pictures of EVERYTHING C5 in my Photobucket. The one thing that I don't have is a picture of a shock.

Let me get some and maybe see what you are having issues with.

Have you COMPRESSED the shock and figured out a way to keep it compressed? I uses a wire coat hanger. Once the top of the rear shock is bolted on to the frame pocket, push the bottom in place and cut the wire. It will expand and all you have to do is align the lower part of the shock into place.

If you are still having issues, can you take a reference picture of the problem??

I also recently did this in my c5 with no issues and I paid no attention to the orientation of any markings on the shock mounts.

Like Bill said... assemble and install the TOP of the shock first...
I compressed mine and used Zip ties to hold it... after installing the top, I cut the zip ties and put the bolts in the lowers... If they won't reach just jack up the rotor till the bolt holes line up...
It's also a little easier and MUCH safer to MOVE the Sensors out of the way... unplug them and move them so they won't get damaged...
