My experience in mexico with mustangs 99-04 they have a huge advantage on a roll. They would kind of keep up . From a stop they usually suffer from depression afterwards
I had an '03 Cobra with intake, exhaust (no headers), upper pulley and tune. I made 455/485. Bolt on C5's and C6's were no problems at all. I ran door to door with C6 Z06 up to at least 150.
Compare that to my last weigh in of 3080, with an 80lb Cooler full of beer in the trunk, and you can see why it takes so much more HP for them to Keep up. Throw in the fact that they run some 275's Stock and you can imagine how slow they feel.
I test drove a 2009ish GT500 and the car was slow as hell and felt heavy!
Terminators are overrated. Mustang fanboys are convinced that with a pulley swap and tune that they'll be running with C6 Z06's. Not so. I've had the pleasure of playing with several modded Termi's from a dig and roll, and my lightly modded Z makes quick work of them. They're a decent performance value, but not compared to a C5Z.
Me and my son have a friend here with a twin turbo GT that likes to play. It makes 800 hp on pump gas (950hp on race gas, but he never runs it like that). From a 30mph roll the Z06 will take him, up to about 120mph and things get real even. Our cars are supercharged running around 10lbs of boost and an Alky Control setup. No cams or underdrive pulleys or anything like that.

Say what you will but my Cobra was proof that a basic bolt-on and tuned Cobra can hang with a C6Z. That being said, I love my C5Z quit a bit more but Terminators are not overrated.

To each their own. A basic bolt on terminator is not hanging with any C6Z, unless it's making well over 500 ponies to the wheels. (Not talking basic bolt-ons at that point.) I've driven both, and its no contest. I'm not saying the Stangs are bad cars, not by any measure. Far too many people are under the impression though, that a pulley and tune are good for 500 rwhp. I like to think of it as "The Mustang Mentality".
There's a flip side to that coin ya know. Vette guys feel the same way. Intake and exhaust and they're untouchable. I can only speak of my experience with my Cobra and every Vette I raced. I had a roommate with a C6Z that made 450whp and roughly 400-410 tq and every time we raced I hung right next to him. Was I the better driver? Sure, but not by much at all. I think in general you are right but for you to say a "Cobra can't hang with a C6Z unless it has more than 500 hp" is bogus.

The C6Z will have a significant weight advantage, in the neighborhood of 500 lbs I would imagine. Much wider tires, better gearing, and aero. I've seen on more than one occasion, C(5)Z's with low to mid 400's rwp pulling 500+HP terminators. I'm not discounting your kill in the terminator, but I think it's the driver mod that won the race. Clearly you out drove your buddy, so on that note, nice kill. Any win over the mighty C6Z is a good win.
Cobra will have a slight advantage in gearing with a 3.55. I think in most cases weight is a big factor but if you're already rolling, the severe weight disadvantage of the Cobra just isn't much of a factor. Didn't hurt having a HUGE torque advantage in the Cobra.

Cobras do have stump pulling power, that's for sure.
