My M6 transmission has been leaking on my 99 when its parked so I brought it to the dealer to fix. I found the seals online and I found that they are about $200. The dealer said it would cost $2600 to replace the seals, and I'm no genius, but that seams a bit high. They said it would be a 10+ hour job total, and I know the rear mounted trans can be tricky, but is it really that hard to get out.
Anyway, I'm wandering if the dealers estimate seems in the right range for a job like this, or are they crazy and should I take it somewhere else.
Thank you

Which seals are leaking? On the '00 I had, the seal between the tranny and the diff was leaking and it was not a 10 hour job to repair that one. Even if it is a 10 hour job to replace the seals, how much does the dealer charge per hour for labor? $2600 seems very high to me for the repair.
m seal is leaking also in the same place. i got estimate from local chevy dealer in NC for around $1000. its not leaking bad, more of a seap.Havent done anything yet but it bothers me because its not like you can just slide under there and check fluid level...lol

You've got that right, there is no way I'm going to pay $2600 for just seals, for now I'm going to just (try to) keep it topped off.

The labor chage of over $2,000,00 is high. Most shops do not charge $200.00 per hour.
As far as, is it that difficult? You have to drop the rear cradle, which means everything comes out. If you don't have a properly equipped shop with a lift or access to one you are not doing the job yourself. After disconnecting everything back there and dropping the cradle you are now separating the transmission from the differential, replacing the seals, reassembling the unit and reinstalling the assembly back into the car. Yes, it is a big labor job. Still, the hourly labor rate seems high to me. Check around for a good shop and they should be able to do the job at a lesser price.
