Hi folks. I have a 2003 Z06 that I'm thinking about modifying. The question....which size header is best? I've heard that 1 3/4" sets offer great low range power/performance, but 1 7/8" sets offer a bit more high end performance. I don't plan on tracking my Z06 or doing any street racing! So folks, in your experience, which set of headers would be most suitable? Thanks!
You'll find plenty of websites/threads saying one is better with 'proof' on both sides. It's a toss up at the end of the day... I would say if you plan on doing the headers, but not much else other than basic bolt ons... go with 1 3/4". If you are looking at cam/heads/FI in the future, go with 7/8". Either way I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. I have kooks 1 7/8" w/ headers/cam/ported stock heads.
Go with 1 7/8. The power difference between 1 3/4 at the current point will be negligible. But later on if you mod further or go to sell the car, the 1 7/8 will be a great investment.
Also, make sure you contact them or whatever vendor you buy from if you are looking into Kooks headers, and be certain they are the latest version that literally slide right in from under the car without any issues whatsoever. The earlier versions could be quite a bear to install/remove.
I had 1 7/8 Kooks on my c5z and currently run their 2 inch and couldn't be happier.
Do larger headers get in the way for future changes? Does having the 1-7/8ths vs the 3/4 make installing a radiator with an EOC any easier or more difficult?

I cant speak to 1 and 7/8's over the 1 and 3/4 but I know the 1.75 makes it a lot easier to work on anything since it gives you a lot more room than the factory manifolds.
That's pretty good. A few more bolt ons and you can hit 400 with the stock cam.
Is the super pros a stepped header design?
I can't answer to an absolute certainty on the stepped header design, but they don't appear to be stepped, and LG doesn't mention that they are. However, they use them on their race cars, and Lou's racing legacy is proof enough for me along with my actual dyno number gains, that these are a great product.

No, just straight pipe diameter on the C5 and C6 cars. We are doing a stepped header on the new LT1 and LT4 engines for the C7's however along with a straight 1 7/8
