Default Which shift **** is this?

Bought the car last July. Came with Stingers and a Vararam and this as far as I can tell. HATE the **** and am trying to verify thread size so I can replace it.

Shifter is too notchy to be stock. Is there also an easy way to find out which shifter it is without taking the whole dash apart?

You can pop out the shift boot at the oval edge. There will be a rubber gasket/flat boot underneath covering the shifter but depending on how worn and possibly deteriorated it is, you may be able to tell which shifter you have without removing the center console.

One caveat to be aware of with this - the boot is stapled to a flexible plastic ring that holds the boot to the console. Be gentle and careful not to break the ring, which can deteriorate over time. I'm pretty sure you cannot get a replacement from GM, or in the aftermarket ???, for that matter.

I think that Southern Auto Parts makes a replacement boot retainer that's made out of wire.

Great if they do... I just did a very cursory search on their site using "shift boot retainer ring" for the search term, and came up empty though. Maybe some other search terms would pan out

I sure could use another ring. Mine's broken. If anybody can find one out there, let us know. Never mind. I just found one on fleabay with a lifetime guarantee. It's made of steel, and instead of staples, it has clips for the boot. Looks like a good product. $38.21.

My mistake....I guess that my memory isn't what it used to be. Anyway, I did a quick search of the C-5 general section, and found this in an old post. It's the part I was thinking of....
