Default 04 purchase

First I tried down loading the buyer info for this series, but I get a error message that safari can't download. Oh well. Got a couple of older vettes and this would be my first venture in these model, years.

Short story is got a call this morning about a 04 with appx 75000 miles. A friend has it and they have been trying to sell it with no luck. That is good. My questions are about specific problem area on these car. Going in about a hour to look at it. Don't need any info about title or general condition type stuff just specific problem areas.

One question is about lifting car. I think you need some pucks or adapters. If these were not used where would be the damage? Any other area to check?

Not sure which model or options, but pretty sure it is a base model coupe as it is a automatic.

Been looking a values from Kelly BB which I think is way high and NADA which seems better. Not sure of what the are asking, but she said she thought they needed to come down again. I am good with that.

Like I really need another Vette, but it would, fit in with mine. Last of C5 to go with my 72 - last of chrome bumpers, and the 77 last of the flat rear windows. makes sense to me.

Know how to check the DIC for current and historical fault codes. Check youtube for a tutorial video.

As far as the pucks go, check the frame rails under the doors. If the body panels are ok, it was probably jacked with care.

As for options, I think 04s came pretty loaded. HUD and sport seats etc were all standard. Only specific problem issue I know of on 04's, is the fuel filter is in the tank which can be a pain in the *** to change. And a certain range of VINs on 2003-2004 cars have a defect in the fuel tank cross connect that can be expensive to fix if it hasn't been done already. Better research that to know if that car falls under the recall. I don't think GM will pay for it anymore. But most have already been fixed.

Thank you! I will try to find the recall VINs to check out. I plan to watch that you tube deal. Any filter in the tank is a pain....my Harley is a pain as well.

Well, I just got back from looking at the car. Outside it is near perfect, dirty but no dings or anything like that. Interior is nice outside of the driver seat where the leather is cracking and the side is very worm, no doubt from getting in or out. Car needs a good detailing.

Motor compartment is very clean, but I did notice MSD coils, a hurricane cold air box, and maybe a aftermarket throttle body. It was programmed and the tuner was in the back. Magnaflow exhaust with possibly headers. Not sure what factory exhaust manifolds look like, but these look like long tube headers. Some service records but nothing outstanding noted. Nothing that shows any modifications. Can't ask either as the owner passed.

Fairly loaded with HUD, but no XM. Tires decent to good.

Thinking it over tonight. I think I can pick it for a price that I can't get hurt on. Color is charcoal looking with black interior.

Thanks for,the help.

Probably Medium Spiral Gray... only 03 and 04 model color...
Bolt on MODS are not an issue... you can undo them if you like or leave them if they suit you... Once you start with cams, heads, springs, etc... things tend to get a little trickier..
I'm in near Enid Ok... if you want some help knowing what your getting into PM me and I'll give you my cell
