can anyone recommend a good set of tires for my base 2000? dont necessarily need run flats, or the best out there, as I am not racing, or autocrossing. just spirited street driving. also, is it ok to replace the front tires with a different brand, and not run flats?
One of the most discussed topics on the forum. Many of us have swapped out the run flats for Hankook Evo's. A much softer ride, especially if the run flats are old!
The Nitto NT 555 Extreme is a good non run-flat tire alternative too. Just search Tire Rack or DiscountTiredirect .com by your vehicle for matching sets (F&R). I currently have a set of Kumho Ecsta MX EMT tires on my C5.

I'm running the Hankook Ventus V12s on my car and really like them. Priced very well, handles great and a very good ride with low road noise. Hard to beat them.
I had a set of Nitto NT 555 Extremes on a previous C5 and found them to be very good tires at any price. They road and performed well in dry and wet conditions.

Bridgestone Potenzas. Put 10K miles on mine in the last two years and are very happy with them. Great tire for the price. If it was me I would replace them all at once with a matched set for best results.

I'm running the V12s on my modified Z06 with significantly more horsepower than stock... Even driving hard, they hook better than I expected. I'm running 305/30-19 out back, so they might hook better than stick-sized rears, but I'm pleasantly surprised by their performance. These came on my slightly-used wheels; I had planned on installing Pilot Super Sports, but I'll probably drive through these first unless I find them lacking once I start hitting the canyons.
Replace all four tires, by the way; there's no reason to run your old runflats on one end and new tires on the other.
I was happy with the Hankook v12, cant beat the price. Running the Michelin pilot super sports now and i think they are worth the extra cost. Tirerack has a pretty good deal on both.
