drag tire?... if so I can understand that... I don't drag mine much and I'm not really concerned with the times when I do, it's just for fun... I always take it in street trim as I'm not a fan of swapping out wheels and tires, so a 275 street tire or drag radial is not gonna cut it for me
Guess the extra wide tires make you feel more manly. Nothing wrong with that

they do look better but a 275 drag radial will not work too well on my car period... I have 19's in the rear anyway and as I said I am not going to switch my wheels out all the time... I am not aware of any 275 drag radials in a 19, I'd probably have to go down to a 17 to find one, so I'm pretty limited to a 305... mind you I also have c6z brakes on the car and I have looked for an 18 front 17 rear setup that I like that will clear c6z brakes so I can run a smaller diameter tire... I really like weld rts' but they won't make them for stock fenders and ccw (what I currently have) doesn't offer what I have in a 17... so now you can see the conundrum, it isn't like I just go out and buy the widest tires I can find lol

Yeah, 275/40/17 on 17x9.5" ZR1 reps was the DR setup I used. I switched them out at home and drove to the track. You can swap the rears in no time at all but I understand not wanting to do it.
that's funny, I'm not a car show kind of guy myself... I'd rather be out burning the tires or in triple digits rather than sitting in a parking lot chatting about waxes and drinking starbucks
speaking of, I knew a guy that owned one of them years ago and I remember him complaining about not being able to fit a big back tire on them because of the gas tank... I am not familiar with those cars though but I want to say the widest he could squeeze was a 275... if that's true then it sucks, I ran a wider tire than that on the front of my car at one point
I hear that about wanting to drive the thing... And 275's in street trim for a rear tire would be tough to enjoy these days

Here in Kansas City it was always a reminder that it's Friday evening and the drag strip is back open for "Grudge Racing". You'd see all types of rides with DR setups for the track making the trek east on the interstate to get to KCIR. Sucks that it's closed now.

You've pinpointed the basic difference in appearance between C5s, and GTOs; the GTO doesn't have staggered wheel sizes, which make the perspective different. I always kind of liked the Holden GTO, especially in that 1970 blue color.

Mine was Impulse Blue Metallic with blue interior
I swear parts were more expensive than parts for my Z

If you think that's basically what makes a GTO look different from a vette, you need more than new glasses.

Loved the IBM. Mine was QSM with red interior and I agree parts were more expensive for the GTO. And like others say yes a 275 is the widest you can go without having to mini tub it.
I have both a GTO w/ LS2 (05) and a C5 Vette (02). I've done a little work to the Vette, but just a few bolt- ons. It is very noticeably faster than the GTO. I am surprised that the GTO driver was gaining on you. It's got a great engine & drivetrain, but the weight & aerodynamics of that car leave some to be desired.
I must be mis-remembering, or I've seen a custom one driving around, because I can't find an example of the blue I'm thinking of, on a GTO. Beautiful car, BTW.
That's beautiful, but the blue I was referring to was a non-metallic blue, kind of like a shade they put on some 69-70 Mustangs.
My favorite Aussie blue was Stryker Blue that came on the G8s. I like the outside of the G8s more than the GTOs but the GTOs got a much more upscale interior. I always wanted a GTO but was too young to make it happen when they were new. By the time the G8 arrived, I was ready and made it happen
Stock gearing in all GTO's are 3.46's im assuming you have 2.73's Alot of those GTO's will surprise you, and yes the GTO's are heavy but not crazy heavy. I think my 04 weight 3721 at a weight on at motorsports ranch.
