Default Low $ headers?

Just thinking aloud here, and welcoming any dissenting opinions...

The 02 Z06 comes with heavy cast iron exhaust manifolds. I don't know how they flow, but I would doubt they flow better than a set of 2000 stock headers...

Aren't there some folks out there with stock headers who have put aftermarket long-tube headers or some other option on their car, who would probably appreciate a few hundred $ for their old headers that are taking up space in the garage...

It should be a cheap weight reduction move for an 02 Z06 owner, right?

Am I overlooking something obvious?

Tom

ironically the 01 up manifolds flow GOOOOOOD ..... much better than the 97-00 models....but they do weigh ALOT....they weigh 16 pounds EACH

now, the reason I know this is this

B&B put there 97-00 header on a 01 Z06 and LOST hp !!!!!!!!!

so they had to go back to the drawing board and take a header from their race car line (sprint car) to develop more power out of the Z06 :yesnod:

plus if you put a previous year stock manifold on the car, it wouldnt line up with the intermediate pipe (97-00 are different)

BUT if you go long tubes, you will gain MAJOR power

hope that helps

Thanks Tony,

That does help. Sounds like the long tubes are the way to go... I was just thinking the 00's would be cheap, light and perform as well as the manifolds. Apparently not...

Is this the same Tom Steele that used to frequent the 5.0 Mustang boards about 5+ years ago?

If so, good to see you again!! :D

If your looking for a cheap LT, I'd go with the TPIS.

rschlitz: have you done a dyno after you got the intake and the headers? I am really considering a Vortex but I don't think it will give me anytihng on an 02.

Wes,

It's me...

Congrats on the Z06!

I think Sean Lewis was talking good about you not long ago - at least I think it was you.

Your stock e.t.s are pretty good and your mods look impressive. I can't wait to chat with you about them. You've got mail!

Yep, Sean had a business trip to Big D, so he came out and took a drive in the Z06 and then we went for a ride in the Mustang.

It was fun.

you've got mail. :)

Just looking at your sig and realized you are getting over 2hp/cube out of your Mustang. WOW! Impressive, very impressive.
