2000 C5 Charge System Fault... Checked battery, alternator and starter, all good. Some forums say the ground wires can anyone direct me to where they are or an alternative thing to check. Seems like a common problem. Happens most of the time and is more annoying than anything else. Does not seem like it is affecting anything
Diagnostics in the car as well as at Auto zone and had a charger on it read 100%
So, what is your battery voltage? The DIC may not be right.. AZ just said 100%,,, so, you need to measure your battery voltage at the battery with a voltage meter...

Guys, P1638 is the feedback from the alternator to the PCM on the duty cycle. That is the ratio of alternator voltage ON and OFF time to maintain charging within a predetermined range.
One of several things are going on.
Wiring or connector issue
Alternator issue
PCM issue
If the alternator is charging correctly then resolving this is not a high priority from a reliability issue.
Could be an issue with a connection at the alternator of PCM. That is easy to check at the alternator.

Mr. Sam
Thank you Sam... I was just trying to establish that he had a fully charged battery first... then have him pull codes again to see if the P1638 popped up again... still learning about the codes/diagnostic/ and fix I would probably have waited for someone with more experience like yourself to jump in and help with that part of it... which you have...I learn something new with almost every scenario... Thanks again!
OP, don't go back to the dealer until you do this. Remove the connector at the alternator where the 3 wires connect. Turn the ignition to ON (don't start the car). Measure voltage at the small Red wire. This is the RED wire next to the empty cavity in the connector.
You should get 5 volts.
If you do get that 5 volts then your PCM is OK and you have an alternator issue that is causing P1637.
