When closing headlights all the way down the motor still sounds like its running for about 15 seconds. Left light only does this. Is there an adjustment? They go up and down just fine its just the noise.
thanks for the input. still don't understand if the gear was bad why would the headlight go up and down as well as the other one. It's just when its in the closed position that it makes the noise and seems to me if the gear was bad it wouldn't go up or down. I've never experienced this. Is there not a limit switch that tells the motor to shut off at the up position or down position or could it be one of the plastic bumpers broken off?
Thanks again

order the gears and you tube the fix. Great video on it, you should use a buddy though. My brother and I did it together.
Notice the broken teeth around the inside assembly.
Up close of plastic gear.
Fanciness vs stupid Chevy engineering
reassembled with new lube and seal.
I just swapped my passenger side today. My plastic gear has numerous consecutive teeth cracked off. Check out Rodney Dickman's website for new brass gear replacements. They make a world of difference and only take an hour or so to replace.
The gear will spin inside causing the grinding until it re-catches and stops. It will still go up and down as long as there's enough teeth for the auger piece to catch. As I stated above Rodney Dickman explains everything you'll need to know to purchase the right gear as well as the bump stops. Goodluck!
