So i have started looking for a louder muscle sound to emerge from my '02 C5. It currently has everything stock (h-pipe, exhaust). My 2 questions are -
How does switching from an H-pipe to an X-pipe help me out?
What's the best type of exhaust system out there?
I'm not in a hurry to buy, but I want to hear what you guys got while I continue my search. I'm hoping to find one with no drone inside. Thanks for the help guys...

Only your ears can answer your question, its late in the season but try to hit as many cruise nights or corvette gatherings as possible. There are so many choices. This way you can decide whats acceptable to you and ask the owner any questions. When I'm ready to purchase I decided on the corsa extreme. But it's your call, good luck.
There is no "best" exhaust . .. .the topic has been explored in hundreds of posts, so use the search feature and keywords Corsa, Borla, Billy Boat, BB66, etc and read up or go to the manufacturer's website.
I like the Billy Boat Route 66 with a cross pipe . . . one of my buds just added Billy Boat PRTs . . . . good luck.
Sound is subjective and as was stated you'll get several different answers. I have the B&B Bullets and love the sound they make. Definitely loud. The only downside is the drone at 65mph+. It's only a problem when the windows are up and the top is on.
I just had an X Pipe installed by B&B when I was at funfest. The salesperson said it would eliminate my drone by 60%. He was full of crap. It maybe decreased the sound by 10%, 20% at best. Not worth the money IMO. It did significantly decrease the burble effect but that's about it.
You'll have to listen to sound clips or hear the different systems in person to get a good idea of what sound you like best.
I actually have long tube headers, x pipe and Corsa Pace and thought it was entirely too quiet. After adding the cam, she sounds amazing. C6 and C7 guys are always complementing about how great she sounds. I recently got her back from the body shop after having a fender bender and the owner, who is a huge mustang owner, waiting to meet me bc he wanted to know what I had done to her, lol. I took that as a complement.

Don't know why your Corsa has a burble/motor boat sound on decel. Mine, the Indy Pace Car, has no such noise coming from it and has no drone at all.
I had a set of B&B Route 66 mufflers on my '00 and that produced tons of drone when driving and popping on decel. I did add an X-pipe to that car and it cured better than 95% of both of those issues.
OP - you should try and find owners that have various aftermarket exhausts on their cars and ask to listen to them. Heck, even ask them for a ride in the car so you can hear exactly what it will sound like. Then you can make an informed decision as to which exhaust you really like.
X pipe will have more of a raspy sound to it.
H pipe as the older muscle car sound/deeper tone.
X pipes have better scavenging and will make more power.
Now picking out a axle back for sound is totally up to you.
Also do you want to do a full exhaust? Headers back? If so i recommend doing the long tubes of your choice (I prefer LG) with an X pipe (catted or not) and an axle back of your choice. I have the LG pro's LT with catless X pipe and Borla Atak axle back and really like the power and sound it makes.
here is what mine sounds like, but i also have a cam.
I just installed a Corsa extreme on FRC with stock system and x-pipe and it sound GREAT !! I can't wait to get the headers, cam, heads and intake on this thing !!
