I didn't say they had a horrible looking top. I said "with the top down". I have no idea how an NC Miata top stores, so I can't say. If it has a hard boot that covers the top that lowers while you are "in the driver's seat" as you stated, then I take it back. I also said I liked the Miatas so don't take it so personally if I like the C5 top better.
I have to agree that the C5 convert top is the best design yet. Simple to operate and NO scratches on the deck lid. And I still have Zero Water Leaks, more than I can say for my C$4.
I installed a new top on my C4 convert, one with a glass window & light brown instead of the HOT black. One has to be careful when operating the C4 convert top, going up or down. Mine is getting a bit tight and tough to latch. And I did manage to scratch the deck lid - I'll pull it off and repaint it.
Well, I must have gotten a lemon for a top, as mine also has the large bulges (air scoops) just to the rear of the side windows and is anything but water tight. Maybe time for a new top, but i drive it so rarely top-up, it might not be worth the bother.
Went out for a nice fall drive today and the reclining mechanism on the seat recline popped under acceleration again, so time to pull the seat and try to come up with a Plan C, for a repair. I swear the same GM employee designed both.

I agree, save the $$$
I need to pull my seats this winter and repair the slide bushing or replace them with the C6 seat tracks (I have gathering dust) and be done with it.
I just removed the fabric. I got tired of it flopping around in my rear view mirror. There are some torx screws, if I recall, holding it in. I don't really see it being a problem without it. I don't keep a lot of junk in the trunk that might damage the rear glass.

Hope you get it fixed.
Mine too and it a 98. I took mine the the coin car wash and started using the pressure hose on the windows top all over the conv. and not one leak!

Thanks for the reply. I removed mine today as well, as blocking the rear window was a bit of a safety hazard. I just neatly cut mine back, so I still have a bit of protection, but it won't entirely cover the rear window any more
