That is exactly my situation here in Newfoundland Canada as well, and that is exactly how I feel..."It is mostly a matter of convenience (when I have time to do it) and not waiting until it is too late (salt has been put down)."
My '99 coupe has been under a cover (in my garage) for 3 weeks now. I have only had it since early August...so I can't wait for the snow and salt to disappear in spring. Will be one of the longest winters of my life.
I only Insure it for 6 months, plus where I live in the north the leaves and pine needles get sucked up to the radiator!!!!!!! (even though I have screens it still will plug up)
And even if it is snowing, it might clear up for a while. If it cleared up, I'd like to think I'd be ready to go in a moment's notice. (I tell wifey the same thing!!)
Starting to get colder in the mornings here in central BC, roads are getting gritty, and... flurries expected Wednesday... dang, it's time.
Friday/Saturday put the battery charger on my winter car, and Z gets washed and goes away on ramps (some fluid changes, LMC5 install, new valve springs and seals, heater display fix for this winters list so far).
And even if it is snowing, it might clear up for a while. If it cleared up, I'd like to think I'd be ready to go in a moment's notice. (I tell wifey the same thing!!)
The issue is the salt, not the snow and dirty ice.. All of that can be washed off in a nice heated car wash. The salt creeps everywhere.
The good thing about putting the car away for winter is that you have time to do mods and maintenance. Here in the south and anywhere the weather is nice years around.it becomes difficult to put the car out of commission to do maintenance. We do but, most don't like it.
I'll be getting mine the first of November and will enjoy her all winter long. No salt, hardly any snow, just a little cold every now and then in Central Texas. 2LT Z51 Sky Cool Gray Moulan interior, Sterling Silver full length Racing Stripe, Front Lift, will be built October 13th and hopefully in my garage the first of November.

Vettes in Cali don't take naps either guys, sorry for our northern brothers... 68 n sunny here today !!!
You guys can have your heat, humidity, hurricanes, fires, and overpriced gas (as applicable). I'll be riding snowmobiles in the winter again in a couple years and enjoying both ends of the spectrum. Cold is lame without buckets of snow. Moderated heat is enough for me.
Its still too early to put the Corvette up for winter, last autocross is Oct 30 and then Toledo has them as late as Nov 20. Now driving to an event on 200 tread wear tires at 40 degrees is a challenge but once the tire heat up its OK. Usually put mine to sleep around Thanksgiving and wake it up for Easter. 8 months of hard driving and 4 months of rest, that's what my Corvette sees every year.
