I did the whole car, except for taking the rear tires off and doing the wheel well. I am not happy with the results and will be taking one wheel off tonight to work on finishing.

However, since I did the bulk of mine, my woman made me do her entire car. I have learned a lot on her car, and my parents, and some of my truck.......... I better finish the vette soon.

FYI, I did one of the rear wheel wells and liners from the tire side last night. My theory seems to hold true.

Do the wheel wells first. It is the most effective way of keeping the tire noise out.

On the C5, there is this Drum-like Sheet metal forward of the rear tires. This has to be a resonator for tire noise.

Now I HAVE to do the other side, because all i hear is the right rear tire. Lol

Its all worth the time and minimal cost of material...
...especially when you finish the wheel wells!

Finally got the project finished. Got the wheel wells and doors finished this weekend. Took it for a drive and I am truly happy with the results. Even better with the doors and wells done. Hope this helps for some of you doing this to yours. It is very much worth the effort. Happy thanksgiving to you all.

I did the entire interior kit from Marc at VettNuts several years ago. It was an immediate and significant improvement in heat reduction in the cabin, and also soundproffing.
This is a mod, with immediate improvement, which will never wear out. Good value, I think.

After reading recent threads about insulating the wheel wells, I dove into that a while back also.

Pulled both wells out and cleaned up in there. Then covered both the liners as well as the car-side of the wheel wells. The drivers side went in easily (fairly).
So, I thought I'd put an 'extra layer' on the passenger side. Looked nice; but, it was really really tight, going back in. I really struggled getting the screw holes to line up. Acutally laying on my back, with legs pushing up (and in), while my wife got the screws started. '
Probably looked silly to the neighbors. I know we were laughing at ourselves (me) some...

But, it finally fell into place.

Got the wheels back on and went for a drive. It was a noticable improvement. I can say, that doing the interior, and doing the wheel wells, compliment each other. I wouldn't consider the job done, until you've done 'both', now that I've heard the drive/sound with both done.

Interior definitely feels/sounds tighter, and quieter. Hard to describe, but if you've done yours, you know what I mean. Music is clearer, and conversation is easier.

Hi guys, I'm late to the party since I'm returning to C5 ownership. The wheel wells that have been insulated on the TIRE side. What's going to happen to the foil as the tires throw debris against it? Is it visible from normal viewing angles?

You insulate or deaden the inner wheel well on the car...and or the inside of the inner wheel well cover...I did both... you can't see it and it's not subject to debris at all...

....right...you have to remove the rear wheel liner and insulate the inside and not the exposed outside...

Can someone tell me how much material is needed to do both the wheel wells and the body sides?
I'm doing audio and interior upgrades now, and might as well do this too.

Thanks

I bought 6 rolls of the frost king self adhesive insulation and 2 rolls of the aluminum tape. I have about a half roll left of the self adhesive left. I sure love how quiet it is now. Well worth the time and money.

OK guys, I ordered 50 SqFt of the Rattle Trap sound deadener to do my wheel wells.

So do ya think I'll be able to hear my new stereo with new 800 watt RMS amp and 2, 12" subs when I get everything installed?

I did my 99 interior years ago w/FrostKing and it helped.

BUT a Warning! FrostKing uses OPEN CELL FOAM.........so Do Not use it anywhere that is subject to getting WET or it can absorb and hold the moisture ;^(

Just ordered the premium kit from Vettenuts...
We will see how it turns out

Dreading the amount of work to install, but hopefully worth it!
