Recently purchased an '08 shifter and after market **** from a member here. Installed it this past Monday and Tuesday before work in my '04 coupe. Car has just under 17,000 original miles. I had already done the anti-venom mod and thought things were good. Drove the car yesterday for the first time. All I can say is wow! I realize that some of the after market versions might be better, but I felt like I was driving a different car. Incredibly smoother and far less slop.
Thank you George for the awesome buy.

I have had the standard shifter, a shortened C6 set up (complete with new shifter box) and a shortened C5 setup. Currently running the shortened C5, which I prefer. Mechanically there's not much difference between the C6 and C5 units; the "rake back" on the C6 lever put the **** a hair too far back for me.
In the end I just stripped and rebuilt my C5 unit - tightened everything up - a little judicious work with some emory cloth on a metal bed plate removed the slop. Then a $10 die let me cut the threads down to the insulator. The Hurst **** from my earlier shortened C6 set up completes the picture. No slop at all in the shifter mechanism now - the rebuilt C5 unit is just as "tight" as a the brand new C6 unit. As to shifting - best yet, especially after new Dex/Merc in the 'box.
Total cost: the $10 die, and Hurst charges $30+ for the ****. Definite value for money.
