Default Changing Standard C5 Steering Wheel

Hi
Looking to change standard leather C5 steering wheel with a carbon fibre/leather grip "D" shape wheel. Looking for someone who may of changed their car and if the process is difficult. Is it just a matter of removing the airbag (obviously disconnect negative terminal) or do I need to remove dash moldings and surrounds. Cheers.

Pretty easy. A few screws from behind the airbag, the horn, ground, and the steering wheel nut. You will need a steering wheel puller. First time took about 30-35 min. 2nd time it only took about 15 min

Please read the service manual before attempting to disconnect the airbag. You can be injured working on it if it's not properly powered down.

Thanks for the replies. I will disconnect battery before I commence removal of old wheel (still in good condition) may list to sell to perhaps offset new wheel cost of $995.00. Expensive but looks great and I am sure will feel a lot better.

Good luck and post up pics and details on the new wheel - especially your source for it.

I'm attaching a steering wheel removal procedure that includes the proper sequence to de-activate the airbag. Just disconnecting the battery is not always a guarantee it will not go off. Please read this first.
