Not all "dust" is created equal! A "Duster" attracts particles by dragging impregnated fibers across the surface and trapping those particles - many of which will not just "shake out". For some dust that does not cause a big problem and on lighter colors you are less prone to see scratches and swirls. Chadwick's and Microfiber is quite a bit different in that you are first applying a liquid spray-on lubricant to the surface to help loosen and lift the dust particles and if you use a good/clean microfiber "with VERY light pressure", that will usually give you your best results. Even then some dust on certain days in certain areas, will still cut the paint no matter what you do.
In Florida the dust coating is full of tiny sand and shell particles which will scratch the clearcoat. A California Duster will cause tiny scratches especially on dark color paint. My Corvette is Black so I usually hose the car off then use plenty of McGuires concentrate in the water and wash with plush microfiber mitt then blow off the excess water with my leaf blower and finish with an absorber. On occasion when the dust is minimal, I use Griots Spray detailer with several very plush Microfiber cloths. I soak it pretty well.
I was watching Adam from Adam's Polishes working on a C4 at Funfest this year. As he was getting ready to put some of his product on the car he turned to the owner and said, "You use a California Duster don't you?", to which the owner answered yes. Point is that Adam could spot the telltale fine scratches left behind on that red C4.
Eh, I know alot of people use 'em but after spending grueling hours doing paint correction, I just can't see how they don't eventually put scratches in the finish. I'm weird, I know, but won't use 'em.
I have used my on my black Corvette for years with no issues and it beats the alternative of having to WASH your dusty car.

Hm, thanks for your thoughts Mike. I'm on Cape Haze and fairly close to the beaches. Interesting perspective.

I'm close to the beaches too. I drive mine every day and can see the sand settle on the paint after even the shortest drive especially around the taillights, rear license plate area and rockers under the door sills.
I also use the Chadwicks product. Great stuff. Before I use it I take the time to clear off the car with a leaf blower and compressed air around the tail lights.
I recall reading a thread in the last few months about not using a duster when using Chadwicks. Can't remember why...
I've asked Santa for a new gallon of Chadwicks for Christmas as I've been a very good boy.

Neil Chadwick does not recommend using a duster !!!!!!
I must be one of the few that didn't like Chadwick's.. After using it and following all directions I noticed some definite scratches that weren't there before.
My car wasn't particularly dirty to begin with either, and I used almost the entire bottle on the first application. I won't be reordering the spray, but the tire dressing is amazing

I was really being paranoid about scratches so I was pretty generous. I guess it was closer to 3/4 a bottle but still a lot.
All my black trim looks brand new with the tire dressing, and stays that way for months
