Hey guys, my dad just called me to tell me he finally fixed his ac problem (vacuum line) but now he has another problem.
2001 Corvette convertible
He cleaned the engine before he took it apart to fix the vacuum line and now says when he starts the Vette it goes through the usual info on the odo screen then proceeds to show the mileage. All the lights on the buttons also light up, but when he presses any button to change the display info or run diagonistics nothing happens.
Any advice that I can give him or has this happened to anyone else?
Looks like the IPC is the problem. Seen the same problem about 6 or so times. People think the DIC switch is the problem and it never has been. If one button is bad then replacing it will fix that. Unrelated to washing the car.
Replacing the IPC will mean you need to have the mileage reset since it is stored on the problem mother board.
Here is the DIY for that. Not really as hard as it seems. If he has a manual shift he doesn't need to remove the shift ****. Once the console piece is loose you can pop the shift boot loose and rotate is so the console piece will lift off over the shift **** leaving **** and boot in place.

Ok, I have the same problem. My DIC does not work. On start up, scrolls corvette by Chevrolet and then shows mileage. DIC buttons light up. Then nothing. The change oil warning works and then was reset by depressing the gas pedal. I have a service tire monoriting system warning that will not go away. Now for my stupid question. What is the IPC?
Yep, it is the cluster that has all the gauges in it and is replaced as a unit. As Sam said, it is not a real difficult job particularly if you have access to a service manual. I have not done a search here but I would bet that there are detailed instructions here on the site as to how to replace the cluster. The one on my 01 had been replaced before I bought it, but it kept cutting in and out and we were unable to track down the source of the problem. We spent hours on it tracking down the wiring and eventually replaced the body control module which did not solve the problem.

OP, sorry to steel your thread. Hope this help you out as well.
If the DIC does not work, does the entire IPC need to be replaced? I do not mind tearing the dash apart but would prefer to only do it once. Is there any kind of testing I can do to make sure this is the problem? Thanks
When the DIC does not work it is easiest to just replace the entire unit. The motherboard is bad and it also houses the mileage so that will need to be changed.
Here is a picture of the large green board and the attached DIC screen.
If you have a manual tranny you don't need to remove the shift ****. When you get to that part separate the boot from the console and rotate the boot so the console piece will lift off leaving the **** and boot in place.
