I have a 2002 C5 LS1 with stock 241 heads
I need to get her tuned, going with a GMPP Hotcam, already decided on this, as I have one in my garage from a camaro a buddy was building ordered kit, but never installed..
Will I have any gains purchasing 317 heads from an lq4, I assume they flow better than my stock 241's?
I can pick up the heads for $140 from a local shop, heads only have 40k on them
(getting cheap because they owe me money from a failed tune a while back)

the 317 heads will flow better than the 241s but you will lose a few points in compression. The cheap and easy way to bring the compression back up is to mill them down and have them cc'd. however, depending on what the cam lift is, you may need to flycut pistons.
the 317 heads are a very popular choice for OEM bolt on boost-friendly heads, they are cheap and readily available.
I can't comment on whether that cam is a good choice for your application or not. I would get in touch with some of the vendors over on LS1Tech, they would be able to suggest something for you based on budget and application.
I just had stage 2.5 317 heads from PRC installed with a milder cam (226/228 114) and it runs great. Torque is lower than expected but horsepower was decent (406 rwhp/ 370 ft lbs). It feels about the same until 3500rpms, but feels much stronger all the way to 6800rpms. I wanted LS6 heads but they were discontinued early this year and my builder recommended we go with the Stage 2.5 6.0L heads instead. I've been a little concerned about lower torque with the lower compression but after putting a few hundred miles on, I'm pretty happy so far. Thinking about a supercharger next year, which these heads will be great for.
Also, for what it's worth, compression will go down by .5 if the 317 heads are not milled (and with OEM head gasket). Not a "few points". I believe it will be around 9.6:1 unmilled. Stock LS1 heads give the LS1 a 10.1-10.2:1 compression...
Call Texas Speed and ask them about using these heads with your cam, but of course they will just try to sell you something no matter what ;-)

I appreciate your reply, I'm going to just go grab the heads, I want to S/C in 2016, so might as well start early.
