It's cool and all, but I live in a nice, quiet neighborhood and I'd like to keep it that way. Something like that tends to draw a lot of traffic and living on a dead end street, we sure don't need to deal with all that aggravation.
Not C5 related but still very well done!! Wonder how much his electric bill went up.
I knew a family in NY that did a HUGE Christmas display. Nothing obnoxious like this, but a TON of gorgeous different displays that were lit. About an acre and a half as I recall. As Jack said, it was a traffic nightmare. She told me that their electric bill was about $800 a month and that was back in the 80's. Can't imagine today....
A friend of mine does this type of stuff. Two years ago he had approximately 86,000 bulbs. According to him, it was about an additional $5.00 / day to run the show. He does a radio broadcast so you can listen to the tunes in your car while watching the show. This is a hobby for him.
The first year he set it up (10 years ago or so), people started giving him money which made him feel guilty so he decided to donate what was collected. The next year he set up an official collection box and announced he would donate 100% of donations to the CAN council (Child Abuse and Neglect). More donations came forth.
Fast forward to last year... the town asked him to move the show to a local park so more people could watch the show and alleviate traffic congestion on the country road he lives on. They collected $9600 in donations! 100% of the donations goes to charity. As stated, it is a hobby for him. The town is now offering a stipend to help offset the cost of light maintenance / replacement because they want the show bigger. The past two years have over 100,000 lights on display.
I've helped him set up and tear down the display for most of those years. It can be cold and frustrating (it is Michigan afterall) but when you see the joy it puts on people's faces and you hear the donation tally, it makes it worth it.
Google freelandlights on youtube if you want to see what he's done.

Looking at that incredibly stupid display, I find myself asking, just what are they celebrating?
Is it the birth of Jesus, or just their insatiable need to be noticed?
I think it is the latter.
The true meaning of Christmas has gone by the wayside and replaced with foolishness like this light show.
I would bet if a poll were taken of people in their twenties, most wouldn't even know why Christmas is celebrated.
I for one look at that outlandish display as close to blasphemy, without the slightest representation of the birth of Christ.
It reeks of, "hey look at me".
That was an awesome light show. I take no offense as a Christian and may God bless the individual for sharing the talents God has blessed them with. It is that time of year, as it should be all year, that we give thinks for our Lord Jesus' birth and have some good will. There was nothing insulting to the Lord in that show. It could be a problem if it was a constant thing, but the odds are good that is not the case. Maybe we could all show some Christian love and cheer this time of year. Thanks for the video. I liked it very much.

Jesus Christ and this lighting display are one in the same, creative imagination (fantasy)

Let me relate a funny little story to you. There is a place in OKC (Bethany actually) that is called Children's Center Rehabilitation Hospital. They REALLY do the Christmas decorations up BIGTIME every year. As it turns out they have way more decorations than they need so the director has the extras setup at his home. It is a sight to behold. Every year the traffic to see his decorations is unbelievable. So what would you do if you were his next door neighbor and wanted to put up some Christmas decorations? His next door neighbor used string lights on his roof to make a outline of a GIANT arrow that points directly to his neighbor's house. I got more of a kick out of that one than I did on the super decorated house... just sayin'.....
