Default Will 160 thermostat be problematic ?

I have a 2004 LS6 long tube headers and a tune at 385rwhp. My friend warned me my tune is probably set for 190. I don't believe a 160 thermostat will prevent the oil temp from getting up to 200 degrees. I am trying to avoid 230-240 degrees at times. I realize the radiator is the key as well as the fans. He also warmed me may cause a code to pop up. I will keep an eye on it and see.

Thermostat will not help oil temps. Oil cooler will. Check the cooler and make sure its not clogged up. if it is not upgrade it.

i run same power level in my 03z and i took out my 160 thermostat. Engines need a little heat within them. i put a 180 in mine and never looked back.

My concern is ultimately the oil temperature. The coolant is keeping the block cool which in turn keeps the oil temp down. If I have any issues and my oil temp won't reach 200 under normal driving conditions then I will swap it out and go with a 180 degree thermostat.

I have a 160 in my 04z and it has been fine...my oil temp is around 185 just cruising around but if I drive it alittle harder Temps will get to 200.

I have driven around the last 4 years with an oil cooler and done track days as well. I can't remember my oil hitting 200 degrees on the street but well over it at the track. I don't think not hitting 200 is a big deal. As long as you're hitting in the 160's you should be fine. Anything over 150 is when I flog it.
