The motor was already built when I bought the car. But have not changed to pulley fearing unforeseen $$$ repairs. The car is already tuned for what it has now and can push more, But I have not done it.

that's why I suggested more boost, to be making only 500 the boost has to be low like maybe 5-6psi... not sure if he has a p1 or d1 but adding another 10-12 psi on top of what he has now would make it a beast... you will need to build a fuel system if you don't already have one and maybe some other upgrades around the car like drivetrain, tires, etc but working with what you already have will be much cheaper than starting over with another car and with the kind of power you could be making you would walk away from most cars on the road... in my opinion that would make you want to keep it

The C7 is not an improvement on the C6 Z06, it is much heavier with a weaker engine. The C7 Z06 is MUCH heavier than the C6 Version and so far seems to be a slower car overall. So if you want the fastest corvette ever made, currently that is a C6 Z06, it is more buildable than a C6 ZR1 by far and about as fast stock.

So how does your car compare? It depends, because your tranny is an auto. If you want to stay automatic then the quickest option is definitely a C7 Z06. The newer transmission makes a huge difference and the C7 Z06 makes crazy power out of the box. So realistically, the only cars faster than your current corvette are a C7 Z06 if you're staying auto or a C6 ZR1 or Z06 in you want to go manual. nothing else is going to be faster than what you have.

If your car makes 500rwhp, you're at the point where tires and your transmission are your performance limitation. There are certain things you cannot do with an automatic, but the C7 automatics with paddle shifters are faster than a manual in a straight line and useable on track. So my honest opinion, if money is no limit, and you do not want to go manual, is you would be happiest in a C7 Grand Sport or Z06 with the paddleshift automatic tranny. That would probably be your ideal choice of the current corvettes out there if you want an auto.

Now having said all that, aesthetics count for a lot, and the C5 Coupe has the best aerodynamics and therefor theoretical top speed of any Corvette period. So a theoretical insanely overbuilt C5 can compete with pretty much anything too!

You sir, make a very compelling argument for the C5. I like it!

When the car was dynoed a couple of yrs ago, they said it had 5lbs of boost making 430 rwhp 440 tq, with bad valve springs, the dyno graph is on one of my posts, I can pull it up if you want, since then I have new valve springs and the car has not been dynoed since. My autometer boost guage reads 7.5lbs in 93 degree weather. I dont know what I am making now. Would valve springs make a difference on power?

if they were in fact floating it would definitely lose power, from what I was told the power would drop off sharply when they float and that will be seen on the dyno graph... besides being forged does it have a cam or headers?

Yes it was really bad floating up top, there is a blower cam and 1 3/4 headers with ported patriot stage III heads. The car is really fast though. I have had modified trans am's and another corvette and this car far surpasses them.

Zee, what's your combo to achieve those numbers?

I'm not saying this is his mods, but a pullied down T-trim, headers, and small blower cam would do it.

Trickflow heads hand finished and milled for more compression is the key. LG headers, stock TB/LS6 maniflod. Had a ported FAST 90, but I've always sold old parts to help buy new stuff. Stg. 3 blower cam from A&A, and extra fuel from a Magnaspark BAP, as well as the in tank Ligenfelter. I haven't been able to drive it for 3 months now, due to spinal problems, but it sure is a great dust collector.

Thanks for all the input, After a few yrs I was able to get my car tuned now with almost 700 rwhp 580 tq. Yeah I am gonna keep it. I never expected to hit this number.

I faced the same decision a few times. I forged my LS1 years ago with 232/236/113+ cam, West Coast Cylinder Heads stage 2 heads with more port work. Car was high revving (7200 rpm) making 428rwhp/408rwtq for 13 years.

Instead of going c7 Z06, C6 ZR1 or C8, I decided to procharge. 645rwhp/568rwtq on 93 pump gas with no meth, and couldn't be happier. No car payments and no need to purge $70k from my savings.

So I have had all the cars on the list, if you can get a wide body GS or Z06 C7 I would make a move on that car, if you can grab a modded C6 Z06 with new heads that would be be very close second choice. I currently drive a C5 Z06 03 at the present time and absolutly love this car, its actually my 3rd C5 Z. Sold my C6 Z06 last year when I bought a ZLE Camaro that I still own. This is a win win deal as all of these cars are bad *** and you can't go wrong anyway you go. They all have something different to offer, from raw muscle car feel to a refined sports car to a track beast.

Instead of buying either of the cars on my list I procharged the C5 and I'm in the process of building a custom home in Costa Rica. In CR now picking out flooring and tile. For me this is the best of all worlds.

I appreciate it though - he gave us the "what ended up happening" to the story.

So many never let us see the end of the movie!

PS. Rock Falls this summer??

Hey, Johnny, a blower is the way I'd go, if I had it to do over again. I've always been an N/A guy. I've learned a lot thru the years. Now that I'm older, reliability is more important than ever before, and I feel that forced induction offers more reliability, within reason.

That is pretty funny. For once it wasn't me using my phone and accidentally responding to an ancient "related thread".

Glad we all got some closure!
