Shoot Pounder....It's OK with me.....LOL....I Love Speed...Just in a Safer platform Now days like a Car....The days of Fast Bikes, Dirt Bikes are behind Me now...The whole point of the Post was a Guy saying the old C5's are Slow and done...and even still in today's market it is still faster then most cars on the road...at this point...I am happy just being here with a Vette...I wanted one ever since I was able to drive...just never had the funds to by one as a toy so to speak instead of a DD...now I can....so I am Just Happy to in the Vette Family.....350hp and All....LOL
note!! I had a 750 Honda when I was young, felt like I had a target on me sold it after one summer !!!!
A maxima wouldn't stand a chance in hell against that bike.
Power to wt. ratios
Stock Z06 with a driver = .124
My bike with me on it = .106
Maxima with driver = .082
I rest my case.

I know of some mostly stock maximas that have broken off low 13 second passes, they're quick little cars. 280whp isn't uncommon from a bolt on maxima, and they put the power down pretty well.
No HD is fast, period. They aren't meant to be fast. Even 150 horsepower from a 1000 pound rider/bike combo would have trouble keeping up with a c5z.

Nothing means anything without a point of reference. "fast" is a subjective term and means different things to different people.
A maxima (or any ~3600 lb. car) would need 385 hp to be on equal footing with a 100 hp harley. And that's a touring bike with bags and a fairing. Put that kind of HP into a dyna or softail and you have a bike that can go toe to toe with a stock Z06.
You alluded that most cars could outrun a harley, when in fact, most cars can't.
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.......

I'm with you Shaky...Guy is sadly mistaken if he thinks a 12oR is slow and I do own a Harley it does run good and far from slow. I guess that's just my thoughts but it has 98hp and 101 tq . May not sound like a lot but it sure make that dyna lowrider move.. I do enjoy my vette 418 hp 387tq to the wheels but you got to enjoy what you have and quit worrying about being fast enjoy what you have.
That be my 04 Z-16 right behind the silver SL-550 V-12 and the 2013 Z-06 right behind my 04 it list for $92,000 he is a friend of mine and seven C-6 Zs were behind my 04 . The 04 was all stock it was my first time to see the COTA in Austin after a lap see ya ,now have 100 HP more . Older Corvettes fast YEP ... C-7s bring it .. C-5s for the money best deal going for an old HOT ROD..

My intent was not to derail this thread. I just don't like to see Harley bashing. I sold my last two bikes a couple of years ago, but still have a place in my heart for all things Harley Davidson.
But to stay on topic, yes a C5 is still a fun car no matter how much time has marched on. And when you factor in how much (little?) you have to pay for a good example, even better.

I wasn't trying to bash the Harley, just saying that no Harley was every built to actually be fast.
A 2002 maxima weighs around 3200 pounds for a base model 6 speed car. Bolt ons and tune gets them to easily 275 whp. They're quick cars no doubt, and put down their power well.
My '02 Coupe has more than adequate power to suit me. I'm no racer and don't come close to driving my car at its limits. And I'd guess neither do most of those drivers with newer, much more powerful cars. Those drivers may win the numbers game, but I'm happy with what I've got.
Just think of those videos that were shot at various "cars and coffee" get-togethers, where the big HP numb nutzes get themselves all crossed up, in their over-powered, under-drivered hot rods......

on the flip side there are guys with stock to near stock cars that baby it all the time and the first time they decide to open it up is in front of a crowd and they have no idea how the car is going to react and well, you know the end result... one of them fell victim to this scenario in my area not too long ago and it was posted all over this forum... I don't really think it's fair to pin that act to a certain power level of car, it has more to do with ignorance in general... it's definitely not something I would do and one of the reasons I don't attend events like that

I definitely understand what you're saying. I guess my opinions were formed years ago, before the "nanny cars" with ABS, active handling, and traction control came along. I grew up in the "snow belt" and sliding around, half-azzed sideways, was both normal, as well as an art form. In other words, many of us learned car control at an early age.

It's hell bein' happy with 345 factory ponies. I supposed if I modded I'd want more and more for sure. But..for what, I drive in the real world. My base '99 stocker will smoke the tires at will, and I know she'll do 130+ in the blink of an eye..I admit I do drool over the creations of some owners and wonder if some cars I see that are so pristine (and lowered)if they ever get driven at all..
Some of us just like the feel of big power !!!! my 2nd car when I was 19 was a 69 Camaro SS with a 375hp 396,4 speed, added headers and 4.88 gears and was a rocket. Still wanted more !!!! I am 64 and still have the need for speed !!!!! met a older guy at a car meet this summer with a 05 C6 and he had a supercharger installed and I asked him how old he was, he answered 70. Then I asked him why would a guy 70 years old want a supercharger, he smiled and said "the need for speed" once it's in your blood it's there forever !!!!!!
... I share your thoughts and feelings and that 70 yr.old about " the need for speed thing ". Growing up in So.Cal as a teen and being imprinted by the "Cruising scene and racing in different area's in L.A. and Orange county on the streets and tracks, it's a urge (need) that's hard to suppress while pridefully driving the Vette. I don't play with bikes, since that's almost a 98% losing proposition. Having been blasted in the past about posting a racing encounter on the street, I have to say that at my age now, that it needs to be a 'perfect storm' (safe area) to engage in a little playing !! Like yesterday, driving back home, a guy maybe 35-40 with his Maserati Gran Turismo 2-door kept driving next to me and revving me from light to light and thinking I was impressed or intimidated by that beautiful Maserati exhaust note, well, wrong !! With 'no' traffic each way on a 6 lane street (perfect storm) the signal went green and it was 'On', it was really gratifying in spanking a $130-150,000 pompous Maserati owner with a 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear burst. The guy and I slowed back down to 45 mph and he makes a right exit licking his wounds and not acknowledging losing !! Was this politically correct, probably not, but I got a great pump out of it while showing him the back side of a 16 yr. old 150,000 mi. C5 Corvette !! , I will take this time to apologize to those who are offended, but with no regrets, "it's in the blood" !!

Shame on you.
In all honesty, I completely agree with you pounder. The occasional pull with friendly drivers (or not so friendly) is one of the things I enjoy most about my car. Be safe out there.
Honestly it's the people who don't drive their fast car hard ever who are the ones wrecking at car meets.
The excitement of it all gets to them and they kick it sideways but don't know what to do next. I can't lie, I've been sideways 3 times today, too much fun in the rain to resist when a safe and open opportunity presents itself.
