I will be upgrading my audio over the winter, and am thinking about upgrading my shifter to a C6 shifter since everything will be accessible. My question is: is it worth it? Considered an MGW, but having trouble justifying spending that much. Thanks, and happy holidays to all.
I hear the C6 shifter is a nice upgrade over stock. But i think the money was will spend on my MGW. Love it. I have the latest version with the lower billet box and shifts are very precise and just a tad notchy. I would highly recommend MGW.
A C6 shifter is worlds better than the C5 shifter, I replaced mine with one (MUCH BETTER) then replaced it with a Core shifter with the bolt on hurst handle (endless choices) and love the feel and precision of it. Can't comment on the MGW or Hinson but judging by the comments both are great shifters. For the money you'd be hard pressed to get a better bang for the buck than a C6 shifter, under a C note a lot of times.
It is indeed worth upgrading to a C6 shifter. But be ready to get challenged for races by a Ferrari or a Porsche, especially when you drive around the rich areas of your city. It's mostly kids who do that but be ready for it and know what to do. By the way, if you do accept their challenge be careful since it's a fast car.
Tried both shortened C6 and rebuilt and shortened C5 shifters. Using the C5 based version, as I prefer not to have the "bent" shifter lever. Mechanically they are pretty much the same. The C6 **** is better than the C5 **** - what isn't, though? I am running a Hurst **** at present.

I knew I had to replace the shifter on my '99 FRC. Started reading comments on the various choices. I wanted something that was really beefy and positive. Decided on the Hinson - it fit what I was looking for. It took a little getting used; however, once I did - it is everything I was looking for. Short throw, positive engagement - just plain fun. It is my DD - shows its worth on twisty rural roads. From personal experience I consider it a good investment/upgrade.
IMO, I if I could spend 10 grand on a "shifter" it would not make these cars shift any better. Problem is the transmission, not any short shifter, which only shortens the travel, but not the effort. I went back to stock.
I totally agree with you. My ultimate desire was a shorter throw - I found it in the Hinson. I know this can be accomplished with a number of other shifters - the Hinson does what I was looking for - strictly my choice!

One of my various steps to finding the right shifter led me to a C6 shifter from Gene. It was better than stock, but was still pretty vague. Got the MGW, and the upper part that allowed me to use the C6 ****, and it's way shorter throws, and direct.

Yes and no. The C6 shifter is smoother than the C5, and the **** is more comfortable (though YMMV). Other shifters do change the shift feel--both the travel and the precision, e.g. the MGW does feel "tighter" than either stock shifter, but I'll grant it's slightly higher effort.
