Has anyone tried the Nanoskin products that replace clay bars? They claim to be easier and faster than clay bar and do just as good of job.
I am going to try them this spring instead of using a clay bar.
I have tried one and I like it better than the clay bar. If you drop it you don't have to throw it away, just wash I off. Also no folding it in on itself.
I may have to try this out soon, but I do still like the clay bar. Looks like it would work pretty good. As mentioned above if you drop it you can just wash it off.
The nanoskin is best for those owners who already keep their cars immaculate and closer to show ready. It makes the prep stage quick and easy in this case.
It certainly can do well on daily drivers, too, but I think it works "BEST" as above when the paint surface has traditionally been well kept and you're just touching up before the next detail and wax job. It doesn't get everything perfectly for me. And bear in mind that you're not supposed to press firmly into the paint with it, even with plenty of soapy lube, because it could potentially do damage and cut swirls into the outer layer.
If your car sees normal road use and weather, I vote for gentle application of elbow grease and plenty of soap first. THEN once it is clean to the touch and by visual, engage the nanoskin to your preference.
So if I'm cleaning my paint surface by hand.... before I clean my paint surface with nanoskin.... what is the point? LOL For me it feels redundant; a placebo.
I been using Nanoskin for a few years. Never used the bar before, so I can't compare them. I always give the cars a good hand wash first. As I'm sure it is with the bars, plenty of lube is the key.

So if you used Dawn soap while washing it with the nanoskin you could strip old wax while prepping the surface for polish and wax. That would save a step.
I have used both.
After using the 6 inch pad with a handheld attachment, I don't think I will be using clay bars any more. It is much easier, quicker, and less tiring on your hands. I just make sure to rinse and inspect after each section I complete.
