Hi guys. Ever since it started getting into the 40s here my shifter or something related is making a quick squeak/chirp noise whenever I move the shifter backward. That is to say if i go from even to odd gear or odd gear to neutral it will frequently make this sound. I have the mgw lower box too. Is there something in the shifter that needs lubricating?
Depends on which gen MGW you have. The earlier version just has the upper assembly and uses the stock lower box. The newer version has the entire upper and lower assemblies. Both versions come from MGW pre-lubed but it certainly wouldn't hurt to apply some new grease to the moving components to refresh the lube. I would check all the connections as well to ensure nothing is loose which could contribute to noise in the assembly. While you're at it, realign the shifter to ensure it's positioned properly.

Even to odd is moving the stick forward. Odd to neutral is moving the stick backward.
Try some dry lube (graphite, silicone) on the shifter linkage and the bushings is slides in, and some grease in the shifter ball and the socket the ball rides in?

LOL yes indeed. Sometimes I put my brain in reverse searching for 1st
Thanks all for the feedback. I'll see if I can lube it up. I'm glad my initial suspicion is a reasonable one.
